Are your fire extinguishers right for your premises?

Fire extinguishers are an important first line of defence, but simply having them on the wall isn’t enough.

They need to be suitable for the risks present, correctly positioned, easy to access and maintained at the appropriate intervals.

At NPG Fire Safety, we install, service and maintain fire extinguishers for businesses across Cumbria, Lancashire and the North West.

We can also review your existing extinguisher provision and servicing arrangements to confirm you have the right equipment in the right places, and that you’re getting what you’re paying for. Where improvements can be made, we’ll explain them clearly and proportionately.

As the nights draw in, the way your premises are used can change significantly.

Buildings may be empty for longer, staff can be arriving or leaving in darkness, and there may be fewer people around to notice unusual activity.

It’s a good time to review whether your security systems still provide the protection you need — from CCTV coverage and performance in low light, to intruder alarms and controlling access to your premises.

If you’re reviewing your CCTV, intruder alarm or access control systems ahead of winter, you can find out more about our security services here:

We were over in Windermere last week, where our fire technician fitted new fire extinguishers at Toast Bakery.

It’s always good to work with another independent business in South Lakeland, and a big thank you to the team at Toast Bakery for the warm welcome!

If you run a café, restaurant or pub and aren't certain your extinguishers are appropriate for the risks in your premises, we'd be happy to take a look.

It’s not always practical to install a wired fire alarm system.

Listed buildings, heritage properties and sites that need to remain operational during installation can all present the same challenge: how do you provide effective fire detection while minimising disruption and impact on the building?

In the right circumstances, wireless fire alarm systems can provide the answer.

We installed a wireless system throughout this historic manor house, avoiding much of the cabling and disruption that a traditional wired installation would have required.

From design and installation through to commissioning and ongoing maintenance, we provide complete fire alarm system support, with our work independently third-party certificated under the BAFE scheme.

If you're responsible for a building where a conventional wired fire alarm installation isn't straightforward, get in touch.

We’re pleased to have worked with Westmorland County Show to supply fire extinguishers ahead of this year’s event. 🧯

With thousands of visitors expected across Wednesday 9th & Thursday 10th September, having the right fire safety equipment in place is an important part of helping keep the event safe and prepared.

It’s been great to support the team behind one of the UK’s favourite county shows, and we’re proud to play our part in helping make this year’s event a safe and successful one.

Wishing everyone at Westmorland County Show a fantastic show!

We recently spent the day with the team at Kepak Summit Foods, delivering practical fire extinguisher training.

Online training has its place, but when it comes to fire extinguishers, there is no substitute for practical, hands-on experience.

Giving staff the opportunity to actually handle and operate an extinguisher helps build confidence, reinforces which extinguisher should be used for different types of fire, and gives people a much better understanding of what to expect should they ever need to use one.

It was great to see everyone getting involved throughout the day. We always aim to make our training practical, engaging and enjoyable — while making sure people leave with knowledge they can genuinely use.

Thank you to everyone at Kepak Summit Foods for making us so welcome.

Niall and Matthew were recently in London carrying out fire risk assessments for clients across the city, where they came across the Monument to the Great Fire of London.

The fire it commemorates began in September 1666 and became a major catalyst for the development of building and fire safety regulation in London.

Nearly 360 years later, London’s buildings may look very different, but managing fire risk remains an essential part of keeping people and property safe.

A fitting backdrop to a busy couple of days supporting our clients across the capital.
