When a home cinema disappoints, it's almost never the screen that let it down, it's the order the decisions were made in.

The best rooms are planned as a whole, right from the beginning. The seating distance comes before the screen, the acoustics are considered before the finishes, and the technology is mapped out well before the interiors are signed off. Get that running order right and everything else tends to settle neatly into place around it.

Most homes aren't badly lit at all, they're simply lit rather than properly designed, and once you've seen the difference it's hard to unsee.

Designed lighting means walking into a room that already suits the moment you're in, a soft start to the morning, a warm setting for dinner, something gentle for a quiet evening, all shifting without you having to think about it. Every one of those scenes is planned in advance, then hidden neatly behind a single, elegant control.
