🩷 Today is World Sepsis Day.

Sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to an infection. It can affect anyone, of any age, and spotting the signs early saves lives.

🩷 Remember the key symptoms (SEPSIS):
• Slurred speech or confusion
• Extreme shivering or muscle pain
• Passing no urine in a day
• Severe breathlessness
• It feels like you’re going to die
• Skin mottled, discoloured, or very cold

🩷 If you or a loved one show these signs, seek urgent medical help.

🩷 At Lotus Care and Support, our carers are trained to look out for changes in health and wellbeing, helping to keep the people we support safe.

🩷 Sepsis really does set in quick. I was unlucky enough to have this infection just a month ago, and to say it was unpleasant is saying the least. Other signs to look out for that aren’t commonly mentioned are those that mirror flu symptoms- achey body, zero strength, very fast heart rate, low blood pressure low oxygen levels and a very high temperature. I personally found that even though I was exhausted I couldn’t sleep, but keeping my eyes open was impossible.

🩷 If there are any thoughts that an episode of illness could be sepsis, you must act quickly by calling 999.
