April and Stress Awareness Month has somewhat snuck up on some of us!

The good news? It’s not too late to do something … and let’s be honest 🤔 it doesn’t have to be just for April.

👉 I’ve been creating stress content for a HR partner and a Women In Leadership resilience workshop and it’s reminded me of how many organisations know their people are stressed, but feel unsure how to talk about it or what to do.

👉 That’s where practical support really matters.

We also know that managers and leaders play such a crucial role 👍 and when they’re supported, the ripple effect for teams is huge 🙌

It’s actually an area I really enjoy delivering learning for 📝 🗣️ and supporting people with.

Whether it’s bite‑size sessions, small group workshops for managers and leaders, or space for people to reflect on what stress actually looks and feels like for them, with meaningful, ways to help.

So if you want to turn the dial down on stress for you or your organisation, give me a shout. April, May… 🙂whenever makes sense.

Resilience isn’t about willpower, it’s about creating the conditions to thrive.

How resilient do you feel?

Throwback to the session for the
Accelerator last week! We spent some time 🤔 about what’s needed to create those conditions and how it can 👀 different for all of us.

We explored several aspects including:

👉Fundamentals that support our wellbeing, including sleep, 😴 connection and movement 🚶‍♀️
👉 Recognising how pressure can help us performance but when we reach a tipping point 🎢 how this impacts us and our teams.
👉 Personal preference in our communication 🗣️ and behaviours, meaning we can recognise more readily what might ‘steal’ our energy 🪫
👉 Opening up our Window Of Tolerance, to regain perspective, stay agile and enjoy whatever the view might be 🏔️ 🌊 🏝️

Bring together the beginnings of our toolkit 🧰 so we can tackle the peaks and troughs in life and business.

Opportunities With Auburn In March

Learning To Ski… (pt 1)

Not humble brag about a skiing holiday or romping about the 🏔️ ..but a reflection on what my venture brought me with the marginal ability to go forward, turn, stop and use the magic carpet …with the kids 🤭

I was very nervous, so I decided to manage it like a race 🤔 arrive early, soak in atmosphere, observe and breath.

‘I’m really scared’ 😱 I blurted out to my instructor Ali as soon as she arrived.

‘If I can just learn to clip into my 🎿 that would be OK with me’ I offered, managing my expectations of what success could look like.

What Ali did next was superb…

‘Super’ replied Ali, ‘let’s do that and then have a ☕️ ’ knowing full well I didn’t mean it 🤭 but allowing me the comfort that it was an option.

Ali then gave me bitesize things to 💭 about:

☑️ Explain the ski, boot etc
☑️Clip in and scoot on one ski
☑️ Clip in and scoot on the other ski
☑️ Clip in and scoot on both skis and shuffle…

…until there’s a tiny gradient that moves you forward. Away we went ⛷️ success 🙂

It reminded me of how important it is to notice, when anything is new, unknown, slightly scary and all these things 🙃 at once.

➡️ Much like running a business, moving into a new role, becoming a leader or just the changes in life.

We can do a lot of things in isolation, but when we add them together, quickly and under stress, they often go less well.

The basics that support us and those we need to come with us:

✅Breaking tasks down, celebrate the small steps.
✅ Being clear on expectations and giving ourselves and others some grace – it’s not all going to go right first time.
✅ Recognising fear, not removing it, is key - we can use it to inform us and learn to manage it when the pressure increases, rather it is overwhelming us.
✅ Review - what needs to come next and that might not be something else. It might be the same thing, again and again, because that’s the solid foundation to build from.

Nature is offering us small signs of change, beginnings of 🌱 planted and signs of new life - but nothing is coming into bloom tomorrow.  We have time yet.

Which throws me back to last Sunday ⏪ My lost fitness is not coming into bloom tomorrow, but that’s not all that racing is about.

It can be easy to feel despondent when we think about the BIG end goal 🤔 rather than the bits in between.

Smaller stepping stones are needed to build bigger capability and resilience back - otherwise we get washed away 🌊.

🍃 My first stepping stone was getting out of bed .. then into the 🚐 then having a ride round and a good panic cry 🙈

🍃 Then I agreed with myself one lap 🚵‍♀️ then another to improve *in the end I did 5 laps*

🍃 On ⏱️ I came last…but I was the only female in the 3hr category, so I won a prize 🥇

I used a bit of my resilience framework to get me to the race, on the bike and to a conclusion:

Reflective: what’s happened, where am I at, what needs to change and how do I feel.

Resourceful: What can I use that I already know, what’s already in my toolkit, what else might I need.

Resilient: Can I fall off and get back up (yes.. as it turns out several times) and what might I build next time.

What I really won was:
✔️ Evidence of what needs to happen next.
✔️ Alittle more resilience back in the bank.
✔️ The ability to recognise the feeling of what success really looks and feels like, for me.

It's been a moment and we find ourselves in a whole new year. What might it bring for you?

Whatever this new page may promise I offer you one thing to keep in mind this January - you don’t have to do it all on day one.

Whilst nature offers us signs of change, the beginnings of seeds planted and the signs of new life, nothing is coming into bloom tomorrow.

You have time.
One thought, one thing, one day at a time.
