When was the last time you changed the sand in your pool filter?

Here are a few common signs that may indicate your pool filter sand is due for a change:
1) Your pool water is dull / has lost its sparkle & you're really struggling to get it clear
2) you are using a lot more chemicals than usual to maintain your swimming pool
3) Your Pool Pump or Automatic Pool Cleaner is sluggish & tends to work better after backwashing
4) Leaks keep on appearing on your pump, filter & / or pipework

How do you check if your filter sand needs changing?

Open up your filter & take a handful of sand (not from the top). The sand should be course & relatively clean

If your sand is fine (like beach sand or similar) then it needs to be changed.
If your sand is dirty, sticky, oily, or clumpy - it should be changed.

I want to introduce you to Belarc Advisor - this is a very handy program and it's FREE and SAFE to download. Note, this is only available for Windows, so if you have a MAC, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

The program creates an HTML report that not only tells you everything you could possibly want to know about the hardware on your system (except perhaps why it doesn't work correctly!), but also what you might need to know about the software that's installed.
