Not every homeowner is ready to jump straight to a full heat pump – and that's where hybrid technology can play an important role.

When renovating their two-bedroom home, these homeowners wanted to improve efficiency and explore lower-carbon heating options – but they also wanted a solution that worked for their property and lifestyle.

The answer was an Alpha E-Tec Hybrid system, combining an air source heat pump and gas boiler to deliver efficient, flexible heating while helping reduce running costs.

Retrofitting low-carbon heating into older homes is one of the biggest challenges in the UK’s journey to net zero.

So what if we approached the problem differently?

We’ve supplied our Magis M heat pump to an innovative new system called EnergyWall, which explores heating the building fabric itself - applying low-temperature heat to external walls and using them to help keep homes warm.

The prototype, led by Underheat, has recently completed testing at Energy House 1, University of Salford, and is a finalist in the Manchester Innovation Prize 2026.

It’s an interesting example of how new ideas could help unlock low-carbon heating for hard-to-treat homes.
