Good news 🙌 The picture has been found. It had been deliberately hidden on church grounds, but is now safely back with our Church Wardens. We are so grateful for everyone who shared, commented, and supported us today — your kindness has meant so much. We also ask for prayers for whoever felt the need to hide it 🙏 Thank you, everyone, for helping us bring this story to a peaceful end.

** UPDATE: The picture has been found**
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DWe5wiqAM/

We are beyond sad to announce that our historic Royal Coat of Arms of King George III has been stolen.

This isn’t just an old picture. Its a survivor from 1760-1820 that has stood through wars, overlooked baptisms, marriages, funerals, celebrations, community life, and watched generations of people. Its part of our story, of everyone's story who has ever visited Bobbing Church. To lose it like this is devastating.

Another church went through this last year. Their community shared the post so widely that the items were recovered.

We're hoping for the same. Please share this and help us bring it home.

*Police have been contacted, but we prayerfully hope this can be returned this way too*

Happy World Book Day!

I always have multiple books on the go - hard copies, eBooks, audiobooks, podcasts...

My favourite discovery of recent years has been the Libby app, which enables you to read eBooks (and magazines) and listen to audiobooks on your mobile device for free! I cannot recommend it enough, and all you need is a library card.

The Sarum Master Bible is going back on display! đź“–

Discover one of Salisbury’s medieval treasures: the Sarum Master Bible, a beautifully handwritten Latin Bible created here in the 1240s or 1250s.

It’s one of only a handful of manuscripts illustrated by the artist we now call the Sarum Master, one of the leading English illuminators of the age. We don’t know their name, but the evidence points strongly to an artist working in or around Salisbury, leaving behind work of extraordinary skill and imagination.

The bible was kindly donated to the Cathedral in December 2024 by The Friends of the Nations Libraries after a successful fundraising campaign to purchase it from a private owner, via Sotheby's.

Following our announcement on Friday regarding the museum re-opening to the general public on Monday 30th March, we are delighted to announce further news of our 'Grand Re-Opening' ceremony!

After an exciting period of redevelopment, we are honoured to be officially commemorating the re-opening of the museum with a private ceremony to mark this important milestone in our museum's history.

Date: Saturday 16th May
Time: 12:00-14:30 (Doors Open from 11:30)

We are also pleased to announce that Edward and Jonathan Pugh will conduct the ceremony. Jonathan is a much-loved cartoonist, whose work has been produced in publications including the Daily Mail, Guardian and Private Eye, among others. Both Jonathan and Edward have been great supporters of the 'Update 25' project, and have loaned us objects belonging to their grandfather, Captain Mervyn Phippen Pugh MC, (of the Royal Berkshire Regiment), for display in our new galleries.

This will be a private event, open to invited guests and current/former members of our regiments (Rifles, Royal Gloucestershire Berkshire and Wiltshire, Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment, Wessex Regiment, Berkshire, and Wiltshire Regiments), and spaces are limited. Please note that the museum will not be open to the public on this day.

If you are a current/former member of the regiment and would like to book your place at the ceremony, please fill out the form on our website. Please note that there is a maximum of four spaces per application and the deadline for applications is Monday 1st May 2026.
