UK business leaders are navigating a level of complexity that simply didn’t exist five years ago - and the data shows it’s taking a real toll.
According to new research from Alliance Manchester Business School (report linked below), 73% 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 2020, driven by AI, regulation, economic instability and shifting workforce expectations.
Many are feeling the strain: 67% 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤‑𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬, 40% 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, and 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 as the landscape evolves.
At the same time, organisations are scrambling to respond - investing in tech, restructuring teams, improving collaboration, but 31% 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 '𝐧𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠' 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐭𝐲.
That gap matters.
Navigating complexity without capability is where change fatigue, stalled transformation and cultural drift happens.
Our take on this? This report reinforces what we see every day:
- Change isn’t slowing
- Leaders are stretched very thin
- Without clarity, support and practical tools, even the best strategies struggle to take hold.
Sustainable organisational change isn’t about more initiatives, it’s about 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 with the 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 and 𝐩𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 to navigate uncertainty well.

If any of this resonates, this is exactly the space we work in. We help organisations cut through noise, build leadership capability, and create the conditions where change actually sticks - operationally, behaviourally and in the day‑to‑day reality of work.
