It is 22nd June 2026 meaning it is Windrush Generation Day. Happy windrush generation day to everyone who is past, present and future generations. We have below included two pictures one throughout the years and one of today.

We hope everyone enjoys the day, however you choose to celebrate it, if there are shy questions that you would like us to answer drop us a comment, message and follow along and we'll get back to you.

Just as a reminder from today until 6th July 2026, we are closed for DIY around the house.

Hello everyone,

Just a quick one, we know it's Windrush Generation day on Monday, and although we'll have a celebratory post (it will be subtle). We will be closed on Monday coming until Monday 6th July 2026.

The reason being, is we will be doing DIY projects outside and around the house that will have a long term benefit to our home.

Although we will be quiet for those two weeks we won't be gone forever. Messages can still be sent and we will receive them, but we will reply when we come back from our weeks off.

If it is an emergency please tag it as an emergency and we will get straight back to you.

Try not to miss us too much 🤭!!

It's been a busy weekend - let's start with this morning.

The government announced that it is banning under 16s from using social media, this will not be fully acted upon until early next year 'possibly spring time'.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? It is a good thing when it comes to factors such as cyber bullying, peer pressure online and online targeting especially with a younger audience.

It is a bad thing as it can increase the chances of young people getting it in a sneaky way that can be dangerous in both the short term and long term.

With this is mind 🫶 Slow and steady will win the race. In today's society it is all about the baby steps that include help, education, support and nurturing to have early intervention and to reduce this type of nature early on while allowing children and young people to understand the pros and cons of social media.

Let's discuss the differences and similarities between a youth worker and a social worker.

One main difference between the two is that children and young people chose to speak to youth workers instead of the choice being made for them.

Youth workers and social workers both work with children and young people that can be in vulnerable situations but both offer help and support when it is needed.

Youth workers work in settings that can be seen as 'informal' such as youth clubs, outside settings, school settings (in small groups) or community halls.

Both deal with complex issues on a regular basis as well as both being stretched to capacity and beyond. Both learn as they go and may not say anything straight away but do always watch closely.

Youth workers can help with entry-level and vocational training as well as finding resources and careers that can be of interest, social workers find resources but focus on the support and connection. That the resources can give a child or young person.

Both are there for short term and long term development whether that be personal or professionally. As well as both advocates for well-being, fairness, skill building and mentoring.

A massive value that both have is their goal of improving wellbeing as much as they can.

However, both of these roles can give you an insight, however problematic a situation may be. They are NOT there to break you down.

Youth workers work with children, young people and their families through ways such as youth crime, youth violence, emotional stress, career advice through teachable methods.

We have a windrush generation fact for you to read. As we're 3rd generation windrush (grandparents were first):

Did you know that the windrush generation ran from 1948-1971 and they arrived with just one suitcase. That suitcase started their lives here. Now although they're slowing passing away (our grandparents included), their memory still lives on.

Yes a number of the generation settled in London, but did you also know that because of the bombings in London just after the war, there wasn't enough accommodation, so they slept underneath the train station until they started moving into accommodation that was appropriate.

The windrush generation then went on to work in either the NHS, factories or cleaning which their children and grandchildren now do today.

Windrush generation shaped our lives in society today, through work, culture, food, music and many more.

On 22nd June, let us know what your favourite memory, piece of culture, music, food (well favourite piece of anything) that you still now use today. We'd love to know ☺️☺️!!

Morning everyone,

We know we're a day into June already but on 22nd June 2026, it's windrush day. This year it is the 78th anniversary of the arrival of the windrush generation at Tilbury Docks in 1948.

Our grandparents came over from Jamaica in the 1950s, so although they have now passed on, we honour their memory because without them we wouldn't have existed.

So therefore through the month of June (of course black history month in October too), we'll be celebrating the anniversary of this special day (even beyond the 22nd June).

Did you know that last week was knife crime awareness week. This week runs from 18th - 24th May and happens on a yearly basis.

As knife crime happens regularly, there is the rise of amnesty bins that have been produced recently.

These bins as everyone has seen allow of knives to be dropped in, there are normally an abundance of knives, machetes etc in these bins.

This week creates awareness of the dangers of carrying knives, not only on the wider public but on the individual themselves, while educating people of any age included.

In our opinion, we think that this should carry awareness right throughout the year as it is such an important piece of news to be educated upon.

We'll end on that note.

Afternoon everyone,

Just to make you aware that we will be closing our doors tomorrow afternoon at 4:30pm until Tuesday morning at 9:00am because of the bank holiday weekend.

We're absolutely exhausted so any last messages will be answered until 4:30pm tomorrow afternoon, after that messages won't be answered until Tuesday.
