Public Service Announcement- scam alert

I was contacted earlier by Education Wellbeing Solutions Ltd saying that my business had agreed to sponsor some booklets about bullying to be delivered to a local school of my choice. TBH I had no memory but it was possible, as I am always keen to do some small good.
They said if I paid over the phone I'd get a £10 discount but I declined. I do not do payments over the phone unless I am personally acquainted with the individual.
I then went to make a delivery to a customer. On my way back I received another call from them offering me a £20 discount for payment over the phone. Cue alarm bells. Back in the office I checked online for the above and lo and behold it is very very likely indeed a scam company.
I've now blocked their mobile numbers but please beware.

02 - AVOID AT ALL COSTS hashtag

I am having the most extreme difficulty with this complete waste of space of a company.
I closed my account with O2 in April and everything was paid up as requested. I would strongly advise everyone to do the same. They sent bills for £14.44 which was not due (and they acknowledged it). I made a complaint and they allegedly resolved by crediting the account back. I have had letters from Moorcroft Collection asking for money which I guessed had crossed after sorting out the credit. I told Moorcroft that this had been resolved but now I get a call from them asking again for money.

Having got on to O2 for the fourth time, I now find that the credit was not processed because no one had authorised it. Allegedly it is being done now. We shall see. I have emailed the CEO and COO of Virgin who now have O2 in their stable and we shall see what occurs.

Meantime I repeat the headline avoid O2 like the plague, they are very very bad for your blood pressure and possibly your credit rating.

Thank you very much indeed you have managed to virtually cut off London Colney.
Shenley Hill is closed as is Harper Lane so the only access is via a long detour through Borehamwood, or along the A414 after going through Frogmore etc or via the M1/25.
Absolutely ridiculous.

Switch-off 2025 -Stop/Sell

You will now all be aware (or should be aware) that the PSTN (standard phone services, analogue and ISDN) will be switched off by the end of 2025. It's well documented though I have doubts as to how many SME have taken this on board as yet.

What is not so obvious that in 3 months from today (5th September) the nationwide stop/sell will be implemented. This means you will not be able to buy any more standard lines, will not be able to transfer them, will not be able to restart them, add new ISDN channels, amend your service or add broadband to them.
In short they will just sit there until they are stopped or you've moved to an IP based service.

It's time to move now and avoid the rush and the lack of resource. If you want to be ahead of the game please DM me or call 020 8827 0722 and we can advise on the best way forward for your business.

Planning to implement Working from Home in your business
Many large companies have already announced either a permanent switch to home working or allowing staff to choose where they work from. This will be especially true of companies with leases that end in the next 12 months who should be evaluating the options before they commit to keeping the same larger space. A key element to successful home working is having the right communications in place and not relying on make do and amend options such as forwarding to mobiles, struggling with broadband that families are using to stream Netflix over and a bewildering choice of conferencing products.
If your business is thinking of making this change here are some key questions you should be considering
1. Does my existing phone solution let me move my desk phone to home?
2. Do I want to have hot desking in the office so that when people come in they can make any phone theirs to use with their number?
3. Will my broadband at home support the phone as a number of domestic provider block voice calls. If in doubt ask.
4. Should I look at a separate business broadband at home that is secure and is dedicated to work?
5. Do I need a physical phone at all or could I use an app on my mobile or laptop or desktop as my office phone?
6. Is my wifi router adequate – did you know wifi slows to the speed of the slowest device connected to it and things such as Christmas lights interfere with it?
7. Should I integrate conferencing with the phone system or keep it separate?
8. What type of conference calls will I have with my customers - it needs to be simple for them to use?
10. When does my existing phone contract end – don’t let it roll over whilst considering your options?
We can help you understand the options. If you would like a free discussion over a virtual coffee please get in touch. Email [email protected] or call 020 8827 0722

So, during this period when some of us are not as busy as we have been prior to this business interruption how have you put the extra time to use?

I have reviewed my suppliers and engaged with some new entrants to see if there are improvements I can pass on to my customers (there are!).

I have reviewed my processes and got my forms automated (Thanks Stef Davidson).

I have reviewed and updated my terms and conditions.

I have attended numerous supplier webinars to learn about new services such as Direct Routing for Teams, SD WAN and others that I will be able to offer customers.

I am reviewing my marketing (need so much help) and trying to decide which is the best route for my business.

In other words this has allowed me to work ON my business rather than in my business, as business coaches will always tell you, so that as we slowly come out of this, Pen Telecom are well placed and ready to hit the ground running.

What have you been doing to prepare?

Back in the office today for the first time since the end of March. Working from home has been great and as effective, however a change of environment is most welcome, as well as a chance to check the post! I'll now probably do 3 days in and two off.

A thought for the weekend and going into Boris' announcements/updates next Thursday. That this is a game changer is beyond all doubt and the new normal is still being shaped. We've taken the opportunity to review who supplies us, what we do, what we should be offering now and how we will interact with our customers going forward. All the stuff you promised yourself you'd do until the minutiae of the working day got in the way. Now that things are rather slow it's really interesting to see what else is out there and which of your suppliers have not kept up. Of course your customers could be doing the same, which is why we have done it, so as to be on the front foot when the starting whistle blows. Have a great weekend and keep safe and well out there.
