Many of our staff have been with us long enough to have been involved with the excavations at Austin Friary, Hull, in 1994 and 1999, this religious house was founded in 1316/17 as a daughter-house of the York Austin friary. It would be the very last of the Order to surrender to the Crown, on 10th March 1539. This monastery was located in the heart of Hull's medieval Old Town, next to its marketplace. The long-awaited first of three volumes has come been published. Primarily aimed at research and archaeologists. We have a copy at our offices if anyone wants to have a look, please send us a message to arrange to come in and it is on offer with the publisher -

The top hat found during At The Heart of Drypool community excavations has featured a lot on our social media pages but it could have easily have been missed in the soil - here are some photos taken before conservation.

This style of hat introduced in the 1790s became the most iconic hat associated with 19th century men’s fashion. This example is made of felt, with a fine textile lining.

The exhibition at The Streetlife Museum runs until Sunday 9th November where you can see it in all it's glory!
