After a productive day of meetings and technical maintenance in the studios and racks room of Sabras Radio in Leicester, it’s time to grab some tea. We’ve dined here on multiple occasions over the years, and are looking forward to a portion of Chinese Chilli Paneer

This laptop is more than a decade old, but has useful things built in like a DVD drive, old style USB ports and a network socket. It just needed beefing up to get it to Windows 10 - so we max’d the memory, and have it running Windows 10. We’re awaiting a fast hard drive for it now (SSD), then it will be a good faithful laptop for web browsing and administrative tasks 👍

The LED roof in this photo was a project done between other jobs - starting with 2 boxes of tubes and parts, and requiring orders with specialist collaborators. And being IP rated, it’s lasted (though a transparent roof has been added since). We also supplied a MagicQ installation to control the side and front lights, and our Events team added the Martin Atomic LED strobes for punch up front.
Pixel mapping for the strips was patched in to by visual productions

We’ve been doing spring clean type work for the last week. Tidying an IT rack for one client, including prepping a lot of old equipment for an environmentally and GDPR-responsible disposal. And either side of that replacing fans / cleaning lighting fixtures for another. The not very pretty picture, shows the gunk that was cleaned from the fan and heatsink shown in the other! This trusty moving head light will now be much happier, especially when the base fan has been swapped for a new working one (official CHAUVET Professional parts of course)

As well as business IT (on site and remote), we also do IT for the home too. Including refurbishing old computers and laptops to give them a new lease of life, perfect for home office machines.
This one is off to a customer shortly, ready for their home working needs (and ready to cope with Microsoft Teams for the kids to learn from home!) - the monitor power and video leads are attached to it already to save them a job 👍

Well this isn't the year any of us expected, and I think we're mostly glad to see the back of it. A massive thank you to our clients who are still trusting us to deliver work for them (in a covid secure fashion right now), we have some exciting projects pencilled in for 2021 that we're looking forward to getting stuck into. In the meantime, to whatever degree you are comfortable and allowed to, stay safe, and see in a Happy New Year!

Greetings from the inspection bench.
So, the manufacturer of the poorly amp MC2 Audio (wouldn’t power up) told us to try using easier to find fuses to test the unit before going any further - so the boss went parts raiding and made this up. And sure enough, when powered up the fuse flashed and went bang (no eyes were harmed in this quest). One of our more experienced electronics wizard friends will be replacing the power supply next week, and all being well gets to make some serious noise testing it (these amps have serious oomph)

Funktion-One (Official) equipment sounds great when it’s set up properly. But this setup had a few issues (mostly wiring, it seems). We will be back to make the rats nest the installer left behind more maintenance, security and airflow friendly another time - but for now, this non powering up has a date fixed with the inspection bench

The latest challenge from Barlow Electrical was to get this box of tricks (a hub for electric car charging sockets) back online. Being in a security hut, it had a point to point radio link back to the main building. But it wasn’t letting the hut go online...
Cue some wire tracing (easy for an electrician) and some server rack pokery (our cup of tea) and we have internet back at the hub. Unfortunately the hub was deemed faulty, so we’ll be back in a couple of weeks to ensure that the replacement goes online successfully and the customers can charge their rather nicer looking Teslas!

So we got the toolbox out and opened up the poorly lighting desk from last week this afternoon, and quickly saw why the power was flickering on and off while in use. A dab of solder later, it’s reassembled and ready to return to the customer

We’ve done some work on customer sites, both during lockdown and since certain restrictions were relaxed in the last few days.
Today’s job (complete with appropriate social distancing and Covid-19 measures) was thanks to our friends at Barlow Electrical, who asked if we could resurrect a lighting system. Using our industry standard test tools, we established the desk was sending control signals, but more testing and tweaking was required to make the lights do as they were told without any flickering. And the desk needs a little repair.
We will be back to show them how to use an improved system, once new equipment has been purchased based on our recommendation.
