I've been a bit out of sorts recently and found myself needing to do break away and make something slightly different.
I remembered an old axe that was in desperate need of a new life. I found it down at the firepit area and it was in a bit of a sorry state. I haven't actually done a lot of this kind of thing, so it was good to get some hands on.
I had some lovely dried ash that I could make a handle from and some vinegar to make a bath for the head....I was off!!
I cut out a basic rectangle on the bandsaw and then shaped it a little more. Then got my draw knife and set about getting the basic shape before whittling away with a knife to get the finished shape I wanted. The head was 24hrs in vinegar, then cleaned dried and oiled.
Finished the shaft with 180 grit and an oil/beeswax finish.
It's a nice feeling restoring something as simple as an old axe. I'll enjoy using it again now.🪓
