As you may know, Orkney is particularly susceptible to coastal erosion especially on the coasts that have low lying clay shorelines. The damage that such erosion can do to shoreline heritage sites following storms can be immense.

So following the storms of the past month, a small army of volunteers was called upon to help shore up the defences at Deerness last weekend. A big thank you to everyone who helped.

For more information on this site and for a before and after storm comparison see our blog.... https://www.orca-archaeology.org/orca-blog/eroding-archaeology-orca-team-working-with-volunteers-at-newark-bay-orkney
