A little professional milestone I'm proud to share.

I've recently achieved Practitioner Membership with the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) and Associate Auditor Membership with the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) following completion of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems Implementation and Internal Auditor training.

It's been a great learning experience and has given me a much deeper understanding of quality management systems, auditing, and continual improvement.

I'm looking forward to building on this knowledge, gaining more experience, and continuing my development within the quality profession.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way.

There’s a big difference between businesses that feel in control…

…and ones that feel a bit chaotic behind the scenes.

Most of the time, it comes down to clarity.

Knowing:
- How things should be done
- Who’s responsible
- Where everything is

Without that, everything feels reactive.

With it, things just run better.

Something I hear quite a lot:

“We’re not ready for ISO yet.”

And most of the time, what they mean is:

Things aren’t fully organised
Processes aren’t written down
There’s a bit of inconsistency

That’s actually where most businesses start.

You don’t need to be perfect—you just need to start putting some structure in place.

One small thing that wastes a surprising amount of time in businesses:

Not knowing where anything is.

Files saved in different places
Different versions of the same document
People asking instead of finding

It doesn’t seem like a big deal…

But it slows everything down.

Usually just needs a bit of organisation—not a big overhaul.

I see this quite a lot…

Businesses trying to “do things properly” and ending up overcomplicating everything.

Loads of documents
Long processes
Things no one actually looks at

And then people just… stop using it.

A good system shouldn’t feel like extra work.

It should just make things clearer and easier day to day.

I was speaking to someone recently who said:

“Everything works fine… until it doesn’t.”

And that sums up a lot of businesses.

Things tick along day to day
Then something gets missed or goes wrong

And you realise:
- People are doing things differently
- Nothing’s really written down
- It’s all a bit inconsistent

Usually it’s not a big problem—just a lack of structure.

But it makes everything feel harder than it needs to be.

One thing I’ve noticed working with small businesses:

It’s rarely about needing more tools or more systems.

It’s about clarity.

Clarity on:
- How things should be done
- Where things are kept
- Who’s responsible for what

Without that, everything becomes a bit reactive.

With it, things feel a lot more in control.

It doesn’t have to be complicated—just clear and practical.

I’ve come across this a few times lately:

“We’ve got ISO… but no one’s really looking after it anymore.”

The person who set it up has left
The consultant isn’t involved anymore
Or it’s just been left in the background

Over time, things start to slip.

Documents don’t get updated
Processes drift
Internal checks don’t happen

Then audit time comes around and it’s a bit of a scramble.

Most of the time, the system itself is fine.

It just needs someone to keep it ticking along and working properly.
