🪳 BED BUGS vs THE ULTIMATE BED… 😅🔥

We were called out to a property in Harbury, Warwickshire after the homeowners made the unwelcome discovery of bed bugs.

Safe to say, this wasn’t your average bed to dismantle… 👀

Great bed… not so great when you need to get into EVERY hiding place for a thorough bed bug treatment! 😅

Once carefully dismantled, we found clusters of bed bugs hiding in all four corners, along with more underneath the very heavy — and no doubt very expensive — headboard! 🪳

🔥 Out came the Polti Cimex Eradicator, using superheated steam to make light work of the eggs, nymphs and some very well-fed adults we uncovered.

Extra care was needed around all of the electrical components, particularly when carrying out the water-based chemical application.

🐝 Meet the newest member of the Joe Day Pest Control team! 🐝

All suited up and ready to tackle his first wasp nest inside a loft… welcome aboard, Ant! 👊

Some of you may already recognise Ant as the man behind the scenes helping us out over at our sister business, Joe Day Loft Control

Well, he’s finally decided to take the plunge over to the dark side 😈🐀🐝 and will now be working alongside me at Joe Day Pest Control, while continuing to lend a hand with the loft work too.

It’s great to have someone I know and trust joining the business, and I’m looking forward to getting him trained up, out on the road and stuck into everything pest control throws at us.

🪰 Cluster Fly Prevention in Moreton-in-Marsh

Today we’re in Moreton-in-Marsh carrying out a routine service on one of our automated cluster fly dispenser units.

🐝 Some jobs simply can’t wait.

I wasn’t planning on working today, but an elderly couple I’ve helped previously contacted me after wasps had gained access through an external wall and started finding their way into their bedroom.

With tens of wasps already entering the room, it wasn’t suitable for them to wait until Tuesday. I attended today and carried out the necessary treatment to bring the situation under control.

They were over the moon and incredibly grateful. Helping customers feel safe in their own homes is what makes it all worthwhile.

🐝 Not every wasp nest is where you’d expect to find it…

This was a very unusual call-out. Instead of being in a loft, wall cavity or roofline, this wasp nest had established itself inside a downstairs area of the property and had managed to sustain itself by flying in and out from within the room.

In all my years of treating wasp nests, this is the first time I’ve come across a situation quite like this.

Because the homeowner was elderly, her safety was my top priority. Rather than carrying out the treatment immediately, I rearranged my visit so she could leave the property while the treatment was completed, ensuring there was no risk of her coming into contact with any agitated wasps.

Thankfully, the nest was treated successfully and the property is now safe once again.

🐝 Active Ground Wasp Nest Treatment in Whitnash, Leamington Spa

This video shows a very active ground wasp nest with wasps constantly entering and leaving through a neatly formed hole in the loose soil at the base of an old tree.

⚠️ 10 YEARS OF RAT INGRESS ⚠️

A very different type of clearance and decontamination project for us this week — tasked with the cleansing and clearance of electrical rapid charging cooling units heavily affected by rat activity spanning over a decade.

Large volumes of nesting materials, contamination and debris had built up inside the units, creating serious hygiene and safety concerns for employees required to service and maintain the equipment.

Our role was to make the units safe for engineers and staff to work around by carrying out a controlled clearance and cleansing process, reducing contamination risks before further works can take place.

During our initial survey, multiple proofing concerns and recommendations were also raised to help prevent future ingress and repeat contamination issues. We now await instruction from the client whilst decisions are made on the next stage of works.

Definitely no small task — but another example of why long-term rodent activity should never be ignored.
