Not our usual theft recovery—but certainly a strange situation!

We received an email from a member of the public who had spotted a bright green scissor lift seemingly abandoned on a residential street near Stoke-on-Trent.

After contacting the police, they were reportedly advised that if it wasn’t causing an obstruction, it should be left where it was. However, having watched our recovery videos on YouTube, the eagle-eyed resident wondered whether the machine might have been stolen and deliberately left there to see if it was being tracked.

Although the scissor lift wasn’t fitted with an Automatrics tracker, we were able to investigate further and pass the information to our contacts at NCATT.

Within just 36 minutes of receiving the original email, the owner had been identified and contacted. They didn’t believe the machine had been stolen as such—but confirmed that it “wasn’t where it was supposed to be.” Make of that what you will!

A brilliant bit of initiative from the person who contacted us, helping bring attention to a valuable machine that may have been involved in something it shouldn’t have been.

If something doesn’t look right, it’s always worth reporting.

Two hire cars. £150,000 worth of vehicles. Both overdue for return. A Land Rover Defender and a Range Rover Evoque (The common culprits)

What initially looked like two late hires quickly became something more concerning.

Both vehicles had been due back at 2pm the previous day, and both had been hired to the same company — which had suddenly stopped responding.

Our recovery team was tasked with finding and recovering both cars.

Using the MTrack units fitted to each vehicle, we were able to locate them and coordinate the recovery with Richard, Danny and Tony.

2am. No street lights. Just a torch, Danny’s headlamp, and two missing hire cars to find.

Both vehicles were located and recovered.

Stolen Land Rover Discovery Recovered - Balaclavas and knives can be seen in the theft video recorded, with the individual shouting at a nearby civilian whilst threatening with a knife. The vehicle was stolen just after 12am, and we left our South Coast office at 12:30am following the trackers locations to Birmingham.

Our MTrack device managed to pinpoint its journey until it stopped, only 3 miles away from where it was stolen. We attended the location to find it dumped by a nearby garage to 'cool off' , with a broken back window. It was safely recovered by our team and the customer.

A stolen e-bike led to the discovery of multiple stolen bikes.

After our customer's e-bike was stolen, the Automatrics MTrack system was able to identify the correct location, where the signal was being emitted. Police couldn't break in due to lack of evidence, so our customer set up a Camera in the back of his vehicle, monitoring the property where the RF was emitting from.

Over the following nights, CCTV footage captured activity at the property, with bikes being moved in and out throughout the night.

The evidence helped build a clearer picture of what was happening, and when police raided the address on Monday, multiple stolen bikes were recovered from inside.

What started as the search for one stolen e-bike uncovered a much bigger recovery.

Another successful recovery powered by teamwork!

One of our customers called us at 12:15am to alert us that their Land Rover Discovery had been stolen from the side of the road outside their house, by a group of Men wearing balaclavas and equipped with knives. We immediately alarmed the unit, due to wake up at 2am - despite this waiting period, we set off to the last known cell site at around 1am, reporting in Birmingham, to get a head start. We stopped to check the signal had connected, and it reported a cell site just 4 miles away. With the unit now live, we managed to get a GPS location, which looked to be parked outside a row of garages.

Once we attended the location, we scouted the nearby area and found the Discovery, exactly where the GPS location was reporting. Due to the circumstances, we informed the customer and his colleague to come down with the key. The vehicle looked deserted and there was no activity nearby, so once the customer arrived, they started the vehicle and drove away. The vehicle had suffered a broken back window, but no other visible damage.

We are inquiring into potential footage from residents nearby, and will hopefully get a video of the theft to post here to help investigations.

A Monday morning alert from a Fleet customer, reporting his van stolen within a few minutes after parking in a loading bay in London whilst he checked unload instructions.

The 24/7 operational team could see the van reporting frequent live GPS updates as it encountered stop start traffic through Acton. We immediately coordinated Metropolitan Police Stolen Vehicles officer, who deployed the closest Police unit to try to intercept it. 🐶🚔

The suspect vehicle finally stopped just outside a secure yard. Our backup tracker kicked into recovery mode, giving us perfect redundancy. Police officers closed in within minutes using our relayed W3W location ready for a potential arrest and recovery...

Now here's the Twist; The Police dog unit in attendance reported the vehicle had just reached a council vehicle pound ! 🤦‍♂️ Unbeknown to our customer the vehicle had been removed and towed away for unsafe parking violations! The owner hadn't received a notice, so fearing the worse he had understandably called 999 to report it stolen.

While it wasn't the high-speed chase we expected, it was a great live test for the new system and demonstrated our strong police partnerships, proving our fast, accurate and reliable systems.

Although the customer was very chuffed that his new MTrack 7 SVR system (fitted months earlier) quickly delivered his van back, he unfortunately did have to pay a rather painful £375 fine from the council to get it released 🤣🤣

I bet you've never seen a STOLEN Digger recovering a STOLEN Trailer before, whilst reversing over a bridge 😂😂

Our recent YouTube video was an Automatrics Recovery Operation including a Stolen Takeuchi TB216 that had actually been missing for 3 months before being reported stolen, as well as a trailer, which we had not tracked. The reporting location was a Golf course with a nearby travelers yard. After attending and walking around the golf course, we found the trailer dumped in the woods. Following investigations in the further area, the Stolen Takeuchi TB216 was also located nearby. Both assets were recovered through a great effort by the recovery driver and the police, with an array of obstacles such as a fallen tree, two unsturdy bridges and a horse that we couldn't let out - all of this whilst navigating a Golf course! One of our most difficult recoveries due to the severe circumstances.

At Automatrics, early mornings don't bother us, whether it's England playing at 2am or recovering a stolen bike at 6am!

One of our customers called us at around 5:50 in tears to say that their bike was missing from their drive, exclaiming that their 'bike is their life'. We immediately started planning to send out our finder, as it looked as if it was reporting from the inside of a Garage. We gave the customer the location, instructing them to wait for the police to attend, alongside our finder. 30 minutes later we received a call that the customer had gone to scout the nearby location. Fortunately, it was found resting outside a garage, where the criminals thought it was a great spot for it to go 'cold'. It looked like the thieves had taken it for a bit of a joyride as the bike had some minor damage and scuffs around the paintwork, and had been riding it between 2:30am and 4am, with several stops at nearby houses and fields.

This is the second time we have recovered this bike for the customer, and they were extremely grateful that they chose our system!

Additionally, we had a John Deere Gator go missing from a customers yard, travelling from Ross-on-Wye to Essex, covering over 150 miles. We reported the location to the customer who followed up with their crime reference number. The police went to this location and found a stash of several other machines.

Two good recoveries, and a Great England win to start the week!

Another successful recovery – this time a 2023 Mercedes GLE that had been cloned with a false registration plate and VIN, perfectly matching another genuine vehicle.

Late in the afternoon, we received a report that the vehicle had been stolen. We immediately contacted our London finder, Danny, who headed straight to the vehicle's last reported GPS whilst we put the unit into alarm, activating the RF.

The Mercedes had been hired out in Chafford Hundred, just east of London, in what quickly became apparent was a fraudulent hire. We also worked closely with our Met Police contact, Ross Sambrook, who attended the location with additional officers.

Once the unit came into alarm, it was reporting to a different location from the GPS, so Danny and Ross attended the new location with the RF receiver.

The vehicle was located in a Sainsbury's car park in South Chingford and was safely recovered shortly afterwards.

A fantastic result thanks to quick action, great teamwork, and strong communication between everyone involved.
