Not our usual theft recovery—but certainly a strange situation!
We received an email from a member of the public who had spotted a bright green scissor lift seemingly abandoned on a residential street near Stoke-on-Trent.
After contacting the police, they were reportedly advised that if it wasn’t causing an obstruction, it should be left where it was. However, having watched our recovery videos on YouTube, the eagle-eyed resident wondered whether the machine might have been stolen and deliberately left there to see if it was being tracked.
Although the scissor lift wasn’t fitted with an Automatrics tracker, we were able to investigate further and pass the information to our contacts at NCATT.
Within just 36 minutes of receiving the original email, the owner had been identified and contacted. They didn’t believe the machine had been stolen as such—but confirmed that it “wasn’t where it was supposed to be.” Make of that what you will!
A brilliant bit of initiative from the person who contacted us, helping bring attention to a valuable machine that may have been involved in something it shouldn’t have been.
If something doesn’t look right, it’s always worth reporting.
