GNAWING BELOW… A RAT REVEALED IN THE DRAINS!

Hearing gnawing beneath your floorboards is never a welcome sound! That’s exactly what led our client to call us out to this domestic property in the Castleford area.

Our detailed site survey found no obvious external ingress points, so the investigation moved underground…

A CCTV drain survey revealed a small juvenile rat within the drainage system, attempting to gnaw its way through the pipework!

Recommendations have now been put forward to tackle the rat activity & install a suitable non-return rat valve to help prevent further access through the drainage system.

Strange noises beneath your floors? Don’t ignore them get them investigated!

RATS GNAW THROUGH TOILET PIPE THREE TIMES!

A flexible toilet waste pipe had been gnawed through at this domestic property in the Castleford area. It was replaced, but literally the next day, it happened again!

Due to the positioning of the toilet & existing pipework, there wasn’t enough clearance to fit a rigid pipe.

The flexible pipe has now been gnawed through for a third time. The next step is to remove the toilet & adjust the installation to allow a suitable rigid waste connection to be fitted.

We’ve also recommended fitting a non-return rat valve within the drainage system. However, the affected pipe doesn’t connect to the existing inspection chamber, so a new external inspection chamber will need installing to allow the valve to be fitted & accessed for maintenance.

HEAVY RAT ACTIVITY – CASTLEFORD

These smear marks & paw prints were uncovered during one of our in-depth surveys at a client’s tenanted property in Castleford, within the Wakefield district.

Although the issue was only reported a couple of days ago, the evidence suggests rat activity may have been ongoing for several months. This highlights why signs of rodent activity should be reported promptly, before the problem becomes more established.

Multiple ingress points were identified at the rear of the property. Our recommendations for a deep clean, a thorough rodent riddance programme & suitable proofing measures have now been submitted to our client.

We’re awaiting authorisation to begin the recommended work.

RAT ACTIVITY – CASTLEFORD TOWN CENTRE

A full site survey was conducted for one of our new clients following reports of a large accumulation of rat droppings around the property’s external bin area.

During our inspection, we found extensive rat droppings, alongside evidence of rats climbing out through a defective manhole cover. Defective downpipes were also identified as requiring attention.

Our recommendations for remedial work have now been provided to the client, & a rodent riddance programme will be set up to tackle the infestation.

🪲 CARPET BEETLE TREATMENT – HEADINGLEY, LEEDS 🪲

Following reports of small insects throughout a student accommodation property, our survey identified carpet beetle larvae, commonly known as “woolly bears”.

These larvae feed on wool, hair, fur, feathers and dead insects, potentially damaging carpets, clothing and soft furnishings containing animal fibres.

Hair and lint build-up around carpet edges and beneath furniture can also provide a food source.

The property was prepared in advance, allowing us to carry out a full residual spray treatment to help bring the infestation under control.

WOOD MOUSE ACTIVITY IN OSSETT, WAKEFIELD

A homeowner in Ossett, Wakefield, contacted us after discovering that something had been eating dried pasta from a large bag in the kitchen.

During our detailed pest survey, we identified an entry point beneath the external foundations. This allowed rodents to access the property by following pipework and electrical wiring.

We also found gnawing damage to the sofa, which may have been caused by wood mice collecting nesting materials.

Our investigation confirmed that wood mice had entered the home and were feeding on food stored in the kitchen cupboards.

To resolve the issue, we introduced a targeted mouse-trapping programme to control the mice already inside the property. The identified ingress point, along with other potential entry points, has now been sealed to help prevent further access.

RAT CONTROL – HEADINGLEY, LEEDS

We’ve carried out a large number of rat, mouse and squirrel surveys over the past couple of weeks, with our workload increasing massively across West Yorkshire.

At this domestic property in Headingley, Leeds, we’ve started a rodent riddance programme following reports of rats in the rear garden.

As you can see, the rats have been gnawing through the bottom of the compost bin to access its contents. We’ve temporarily blocked the damaged area until our client can have it removed.

Multiple rat boxes containing traps have now been installed to target the activity. We’ll monitor the traps and assess progress during our follow-up visits.
