This week is

Knife Crime Awareness Week 2026 is a powerful moment for communities to unite and take a stand for the safety of our young people. It highlights the ongoing efforts of individuals, charities, and organisations working tirelessly to prevent knife crime and protect lives. Join the movement from 18th – 24th May 2026.

At SpringAid International Development UK, we are standing with communities across Leeds to raise awareness about the devastating impact of knife crime—and more importantly, to promote solutions that save lives.

Knife crime is not just a statistic. It’s affecting real people, real families, and real futures.

Too many young people feel pressure, fear, or lack of opportunity—but carrying a knife is never the answer. It only increases the risk of harm, to yourself and to others.

We believe in:

🔹 Prevention through education
🔹 Empowering young people with positive alternatives
🔹 Supporting families and communities
🔹 Working together for lasting change

This week, we are bringing together voices from across Leeds—community leaders, youth workers, faith groups, and law enforcement—to send one united message:

Bin the knife. Save a life.

Let’s stand together. Let’s protect our young people. Let’s build safer communities.

During the year, we have spoken to hundreds of people across our communities about knife crime and its devastating impact on individuals, families, and society as a whole. These conversations have made one thing clear: knife crime leaves lasting pain that reaches far beyond the moment of violence.

During this Christmas period, while many families gather to celebrate, others are facing heartbreak. Some are spending Christmas without loved ones who have lost their lives, others are visiting family members in hospital recovering from life-changing injuries, and some are separated by prison walls. These are the real, human consequences of knife crime.

This season should be a time of hope, reflection, and togetherness. Instead of more loss, we must choose unity, compassion, and action. Now is the moment to stand together as parents, young people, community leaders, and residents to say enough is enough.

Together, let us stand up against knife crime by choosing dialogue over violence, support over silence, and hope over fear. By working collectively to educate, guide, and protect our young people, we can prevent further tragedy and build safer, stronger communities for everyone.

Bin the knife. Save a life.
