Carbon Smart Living Outreach Project

Taking Carbon Smart Living to the Heart of Leeds

We took the Carbon Smart Living Project into Leeds City Centre, engaging directly with residents, shoppers, young people and visitors about practical ways to live more sustainably.

The city-centre outreach provided an opportunity for the SpringAid team and volunteers to have informal conversations with members of the public, distribute information and encourage people to think about how everyday choices can contribute to a cleaner and healthier Leeds.

The engagement focused on simple, achievable actions, including:

* 🌱 Reducing household carbon emissions
* 🚶 Choosing active and sustainable forms of travel
* ♻️ Reducing waste and increasing recycling
* 💡 Saving energy at home
* 🥗 Making sustainable and healthy food choices
* 🌍 Protecting the environment and local communities

The event also created space for meaningful conversations with people from different backgrounds, helping to make climate action more accessible and relevant to communities that are not always reached through traditional environmental campaigns.

From Conversation to Action

The Leeds City Centre event demonstrated that climate action does not have to be complicated. By taking the conversation directly to people where they live, work, shop and spend time, we were able to encourage residents to consider the small changes they can make in their everyday lives.

Small actions can create big change — together we can build a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Leeds.

LEEDS CARBON SMART LIVING PROJECT

MIDDLETON WAS BUZZING!

Two days. Two community events. Plenty of energy, laughter, learning and positive conversations!

From Middleton Market to the Great Middleton Park Show, we brought people together to discover that living healthier and protecting our planet can be simple, practical — and fun!

Here’s a taste of what happened! 👇🏾

Taste, Talk & Learn! — Exploring healthy, affordable food choices, balanced meals, hydration and simple ways to eat well without breaking the bank.

Food Meets the Planet! — Getting people talking about lower-carbon food choices, eating less meat and finding creative ways to reduce food waste.

Energy Challenge! — Sharing easy, everyday energy-saving tips and showing how small changes at home can help reduce bills and protect the environment.

Waste Less, Do More! — Challenging ourselves to think differently about what we throw away, what we can reuse and how we can recycle more.

Move More! — Getting people thinking about walking, cycling and everyday movement as healthier choices for both ourselves and our planet.

Your Voice Matters! — Open conversations, questions, ideas and personal pledges showing that climate action starts with all of us.

There was learning, participation, interaction, laughter and plenty of community spirit — proving that positive change is something we can create together.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along, joined in, shared ideas and helped make these two days so memorable.

We are incredibly proud to share that SpringAid has been recognised with an award celebrating small groups and charities in Leeds 2026.

This honour, organised by Leeds City Council and Voluntary Action Leeds, and presented by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Stephen Holroyd, acknowledges the impact of our work and the contribution we continue to make to residents and communities across the city.

We are truly grateful to the organisers and hosts for this recognition. It inspires us to keep working alongside our communities—supporting, empowering, and creating opportunities that make a real difference in people’s lives.

This award belongs to every volunteer, partner, and community member who has been part of our journey. Together, we are building stronger, more connected communities in Leeds.

Beeston Festival 2026: Building Stronger, Safer, Healthier & Greener Communities The SpringAid team was proud to participate in this year’s Beeston Festival—a vibrant celebration of community, culture, and connection in South Leeds.

During the event, we championed the Leeds Carbon Smart Living Project, engaging residents with practical, everyday solutions for sustainable living. We discussed everything from home energy management and waste reduction to eco-friendly travel options like walking, cycling, public transport, and electric vehicles.

Beyond sustainability, we dedicated time to creating a safe, open space for crucial community safety conversations. A major focus of our day was engaging young people on the dangers of knife crime and the realities of belonging to gangs, fostering honest dialogue, raising awareness, and promoting collective responsibility to help keep our neighbourhoods safe.

Events like the Beeston Festival truly highlight the power of grassroots community action in driving safer streets, healthier lives, and a sustainable future.

A massive thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared their stories, and made the day such a resounding success!

Learn to Cycle – Building Confidence, One Ride at a Time!

What an amazing session we had at our recent Learn to Cycle event! It was inspiring to see participants support one another, build confidence, and take important steps towards gaining a life skill that opens up new opportunities for health, independence, and mobility.

From first-time riders to those rediscovering their balance, the atmosphere was full of encouragement, determination, and progress. A special shout-out to everyone who took part—you made it truly special!
