You know that showing up as your best self has a ripple effect in the world of work but do you consciously prioritise your mental well-being around family?
On our first bank holiday of 2023 Im sincerely wishing all those celebrating religious festivals and gathering for family time this weekend every happiness.
For many family can feel like the hardest place however. It’s our root, its how we developed our identity and being around those we love can be triggering and open scars that we thought were healed especially if our journey of being othered began at home and was the environment we learnt to
An elder encouraged me some years ago to always:
1. Prepare in advance
2. Think ahead of how you wish to contribute
3. Establish with your partner and children how much time you wish to commit
4. Hold yourself accountable for your own behaviour
5. Take care to reflect on how you make others feel (not when the sun is shining but when youre feeling exhausted, anxious, afraid or triggered
When we decide how we will create the boundaries we need to be in place and consider how others might be feeling ahead of time, we can notice how vital it is that we meet our own needs first. This is is not selfish it’s about having a ‘centred self’!
Remember: Hungry, Angry, Lonely and Tired people fall out fast and its ok to leave on a high if you notice you’re emotional state changing however you can change your breathing and notice an immediate difference to your own state
So whether its breath work or travel planning that needs more effort you are 100% responsible for what you think, feel and how you behave
