The latest Kantar BrandZ report - which has been tracking the performance of the world’s strongest brands for the past 20 years - contains some fascinating insights about the power of a strong brand.

They break strong brands into three components: salience (being seen), meaning (being important), and differentiation (being different).

Brands that were only salient—visible but without substance—had just a 38% survival rate over two decades. But brands that combined all three elements? 62% survival rate.

The lesson? It's not enough to be seen. You have to matter.

We see this constantly, companies pouring budgets into getting noticed through SEO, paid media, PR campaigns, but struggling to articulate why anyone should care beyond their immediate need.

The question isn't whether people can find you. It's whether they'll remember why they should care once they do.
