⚠️ A hidden fault that could have had serious consequences…
Today’s call-out was for a circuit that had suddenly lost power. Using a methodical fault-finding process, we traced the issue to the final few metres of cable feeding the circuit.
After creating access into the roof void, we discovered the cause – rodents had chewed through several electrical cables, resulting in a small electrical fire within the loft space.
Fortunately, the damage was identified before it had the chance to develop into something far more serious.
Whilst on site, we carried out a full inspection of the installation and identified several additional faults that were preventing the lighting circuits from operating correctly. We rectified these issues and also found that the existing consumer unit no longer met current standards.
To improve both safety and reliability, we upgraded the distribution board to a modern 18th Edition metal consumer unit complete with RCBO protection and surge protection, ensuring every circuit now has individual fault protection.
This job is a perfect example of why electrical faults shouldn’t be ignored. What initially appeared to be a simple loss of power turned out to be hidden fire damage, multiple wiring faults, and an outdated consumer unit.
At Coleman Electrical & Security Ltd, we pride ourselves on finding faults that others struggle to diagnose, while always looking at the overall safety of the installation—not just the immediate problem.
If you’re experiencing intermittent faults, loss of power, tripping circuits, or simply want peace of mind that your electrical installation is safe, get in touch.
