Our alumni volunteers rolled up their sleeves, got their hands dirty, and spent a truly wonderful afternoon in the Sustainable Garden on campus, all as part of our campaign. 🌍🌱
From weeding to planting microgreens, it was hands-on, grounding, and genuinely joyful. And the best part? Every volunteer went home with a cup of seeds to grow their own microgreens because the impact doesn’t stop when the session ends.

A huge thank you to every single one of our volunteers who gave their time, their energy, and their hands to this. You are the reason we’re already halfway to our 100-hour goal.

The week isn’t over yet! Have you logged your hour?

What can organisations learn from hostage negotiation?
In this episode of our “Work in progress” series, Dr Sanjay Popat speaks with former hostage negotiator Nigel Taberner about the psychological realities of working under extreme pressure. Drawing on more than 130 life-at-risk incidents, Nigel reflects on stress, emotional control, communication in high-pressure environments, and what leaders and organisations can learn from professions where every interaction matters.

From Leeds to Lagos, Mumbai to Manchester, we are calling on our global alumni community to give just one hour to the planet. 🌍
This June, the LUBS Alumni team is launching 100 Hours for the Planet, a global volunteering campaign where Leeds alumni around the world come together to collectively log 100 hours of community action during one dedicated volunteering week, 1st to 7th June 2026.
One hour is all it takes. Whether you plant a tree, run a skills workshop, volunteer at a food bank, or join us right here on campus in Leeds, every hour counts, every action matters, and every one of you is part of something bigger than yourself.

Choose your volunteering activity, and log your hours during the week. We’ll be tracking every single one in real time.

Leeds made us. Now let’s give something back.
