This Learning Disability Week, the theme “Do you see me?” is an important reminder that people with a learning disability should be seen, heard, valued, and supported to live the lives they choose.
Our work supports more than half a million adult social care workers in England who provide support for people with a learning disability and/or autistic people.
We know the workforce plays a vital role in creating inclusive, compassionate environments where people feel empowered, respected, and able to thrive within their communities.
Supporting truly person-centred care means: recognising people as individuals, listening to lived experiences, respecting choices, and ensuring people are actively involved in decisions about their own lives and support.
This week is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of:
✔ Listening to and valuing lived experiences
✔ Promoting independence, choice, and inclusion
✔ Supporting dignity, respect, and belonging
✔ Developing a skilled and confident workforce that can deliver high-quality, person-centred support
Because people with a learning disability and autistic people should not just receive support, they should feel recognised, respected, and genuinely seen.
