🇿🇦 Joanne has just returned from her holiday in South Africa - here's her slightly dramatic review of her trip......

✈️ We flew from Manchester via Heathrow into Cape Town (because apparently no great adventure starts with a direct flight!) We were met by our guide (Tania) and driver (Sam) AKA the people responsible for keeping us alive on this trip

🐧 First stop: Stoney Point to see one of the penguin colonies - also saw seals and dassies (still not 100% sure what a dassie is but they seemed to be living their best lives) From here we drove to Hermanus - a gorgeous town which was to be our home for the first night - absolutely stunning

🦁 Next up: The game reserve and the setting for a number of 'this seemed like a good idea at the time' moments! We did manage to see the Big Five which seemed impressive until a lioness considered adding us to the list. Yes there was some chasing involved (lioness chasing humans!) The cheetah's on the other hand were completely unbothered and just lounging at the side of the track, purring away. Sunrises & sunsets here were completely unreal - like someone who had turned up the saturation to maximum!

🍷 Then it was back on the road: First the ostrich farm (they are big, dramatic and surprisingly interested in being fed) followed by a wine tasting session in the sun - which we absolutely nailed!!

⛈️ Mother Nature then decided to surprise us with non-stop rain - plans to cruise on the Knysna Lagoon were cancelled (safety first) so instead we enjoyed a very glamorous soggy stroll around the waterfront in Knysna (not quite the same)

🍇 After that, a long scenic drive to Franschhoek & Stellenbosch - beautiful wineries, historic towns and even more wine-tasting (we persevered bravely) Then is was into Cape Town for Table Mountain and a day around the Cape of Good Hope - where the views were incredible and we took picture after picture

🇿🇦 Finally some free time and we hit up the food markets at the V&A Waterfront, along with the independent cafes, bars & shops

😍 We loved South Africa - would absolutely recommend doing a tour because there's so much to see (and also it's nice to have someone else responsible for directions AND lion-related emergencies)

😋 Food & wine - incredible
💸 Prices - even better

‼️ Quick reality check: don't wander around Cape Town alone or after dark - it is not the place for a solo midnight stroll. Stick to Ubers, they are easy and safe
