Navigating ISO 9001:2026 – What You Need to Know

The revised ISO 9001 standard, is expected to be published in September 2026, with the Draft International Standard (DIS) already available for consultation.

What’s Changing in ISO 9001:2026?

While the core structure (Annex SL) remains largely intact, the revision will reflect several key modern priorities:

• Climate & sustainability: The 2024 climate amendment (requiring consideration of climate-related risks/opportunities) will be formally included in the standard.
• Digital transformation & Industry 4.0: Greater focus on managing automation, AI and data-driven quality management.
• Supply-chain resilience: Requirements for strengthening of contingency activities, second-sourcing, and developing supplier controls.
• Risk management: Separation of risk and opportunity, with an increased need for proactive controls.
• Leadership, ethics & quality culture: Increased involvement for leadership to embed ethical behaviour and quality culture.
• Customer experience: Focus on developing satisfaction to a broader positive experience and responsiveness.
• Alignment with other ISO standards: More seamless integration with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, etc.

How Long Organisations Have to Implement

Once ISO 9001:2026 is published, expect approximately a three-year transition window—likely until late 2029—for organisations to migrate from ISO 9001:2015.

Understanding ISO 21001: Benefits, Key Elements, and Stakeholders

ISO 21001 is an international standard for Educational Organisations Management Systems (EOMS). It’s designed to help educational institutions improve the quality of their processes and align more closely with the needs of learners and other stakeholders.

Benefits
The main advantage of ISO 21001 is its focus on learner satisfaction. It ensures that education providers deliver consistent, high-quality experiences while improving overall organisational effectiveness. Institutions using the standard often see better internal communication, increased accountability, and clearer objectives. It also helps build trust with students, parents, regulators, and employers by showing a commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Elements
ISO 21001 is based on ISO’s high-level structure for management systems, making it compatible with standards like ISO 9001. Key elements include:

Learner focus: Understanding and meeting learners’ needs is central.

Leadership: Strong leadership ensures a shared vision and strategic direction.

Engagement of people: Involving staff at all levels strengthens the organisation.

Process approach: Activities are managed as interconnected processes for efficiency.

Evidence-based decisions: Data drives planning and improvement.

Relationship management: Maintaining positive relationships with all stakeholders is critical.

Social responsibility and inclusiveness: The standard encourages access and equity in education.

Major Stakeholders
Stakeholders in ISO 21001 include:

Learners: The core focus, whether in primary schools, universities or training centres.

Educators and staff: Responsible for implementation and ongoing improvement.

Parents and guardians: Especially relevant in early years and primary education.

Regulatory bodies: Ensure compliance and standards alignment.

Employers and industry partners: Rely on the quality of graduates and trainees.

In short, ISO 21001 offers a structured way to raise standards in education and meet the expectations of a wide range of interested parties

ISO Certification for SMEs: A Smarter Way to Build Trust and Grow

For small and medium-sized businesses, achieving ISO certification to the “Big 3” standards — ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), and ISO 45001 (Health & Safety) — isn’t just about compliance. It’s about running a better business.

ISO 9001 helps you deliver consistent quality, improve customer satisfaction, and reduce costly mistakes.
ISO 14001 shows you’re serious about environmental responsibility, helping you manage risks, reduce waste, and meet legal requirements.
ISO 45001 supports a safer workplace, helping protect your team and lower the risk of incidents.

Together, these standards build trust with customers, suppliers, and regulators. They open doors to new contracts — especially with larger clients who demand certified suppliers — and give you a competitive edge.
BTK Quality makes certification achievable. We work directly with SMEs to simplify the process, cut through the jargon, and tailor each system to your business. No off-the-shelf templates, no box-ticking — just practical systems that actually improve how you operate.
From gap analysis and documentation to staff training and audit support, we’re with you every step of the way. Whether you’re starting from scratch or need help maintaining existing certifications, BTK Quality provides honest, hands-on support designed for growing businesses.
Getting certified doesn’t have to be stressful — not with the right help. Let BTK Quality guide you through the process and set your business up for long-term success.
