What reporting must you have to make informed decisions about your business? Many have a lack of information, some have too much. This is my 'Bible of all reports' – whether you are Sainsbury’s or a Sole Trader, this report (when completed) will tell you a lot about how the business is performing.

So it’s Christmas week. I’m a pretty resilient human, that said, the latest COVID19 news is draining and tiresome. There is not enough fun in the world at the moment.

Now then, with that in mind – here’s my attempt to make a few people smile. ⚠️ Warning ⚠️ if you have rigid principles and lack the ability to shrug off comments that are meant to be tongue in cheek, then save yourself the time and don’t watch this video. If you are not this then watch & enjoy…

Ps: Frogs are one of my most favourite animals (Budweiser advert) and I've not met one person from Mow Cop with 6 fingers!

Merry Christmas! 🐄🎄🎅⛄🎁

If you're a business owner looking for advice or support on the subject of raising money, Tom Wilkinson of Beta Commercial Finance Ltd is your man. They offer honest, skilled advice, acting tirelessly on behalf their clients. I direct my clients to Beta Commercial Finance without hesitation knowing they are in the safest of hands. Tom gives us his top-tips to help SME’s get a positive lending outcome:

🤔 Always ask yourself the question "Is raising finance the right thing?" (sometimes the answer is not borrowing money)

🏦 Your bank is not always the best option, shop around, there could very well be a cheaper/better solution.

📝 Presentation and structure of information to the lender is key to get the outcome you want.

👥 Make sure all the stakeholders involved in the process know what is expected of them to ensure a positive and timely result.

What does a great business coach do? How do you know if a business coach is the right fit for you? There are many people who have coached me in life – the really good ones tick the following boxes:

👍 You respect them
❓They DON'T know all the answers
🚪 They leave their ego at the door (& are open to new ideas)
✅ They'll encourage you to do a better job of fewer things

A shout-out this week to my long-time mentor Alun Dow who taught me shed loads!!

How do you treat your suppliers? Do you see them as part of your team? Building relationships where you treat suppliers like respected, extended members of your team can influence whether you succeed or fail. Here are the DOs and DON'Ts I've learnt in my career when building a supplier relationship:

DO 👍
- Nurture the relationship (How can you help them? How can they help you?)
- Share your business goals
- Share your business challenges
- Travel to meet them (occasionally), it shows respect & commitment
- Have a laugh with them

DON'T 👎
- Blame your supplier if something goes wrong
- Look to screw ‘em into the ground (You both have to benefit from the relationship)
- Treat them like an outsider

If you said to me "where do you want to be in 20 years?" I wouldn't have a clue, it feels too far away! It doesn't serve to inspire me. If you asked me the same question using 5 years, you'd get a very different response. You have enough time to achieve something very special within 5 years, yet it still feels close enough to inspire and motivate.

Watch this week's episode where I share the merits of asking yourself "where you want I be in 5 years?" 👌💯

If there was only one word that I could use to describe the most important thing for me to focus on in my world this year, it’s patience.

In my opinion, it should be for many other people too! Enjoyment comes a close 2nd! Busy, hard-working, ambitious people often struggle with patience. They lose their nerve. These are the 4 things I see when people embrace the power of patience:

⌛ They do things justice – they don’t expect instant results.
🤗 They’re happier, less stressed, they live in the moment = they are healthier.
🧠 They make better decisions.
🏆 They succeed without looking rushed – they do a better job of fewer things, rather than an average job of lots of things.

In episode #17 of the MOO Friday vlog, I take a look back at a mentor I drew strength from (and still do). I talk about the benefits a mentor can bring to your life, including:

🔍 perspective from outside of the business
💬 a chance to share your leadership challenges away from the office
🌱 learning from their mistakes (save yourself some serious pain)
️ ⛰️ bring context to situation
🔑 provide you with a network of contacts that are like minded
✅ hold you accountable

This week’s episode involves somebody I regularly recommend to businesses who require commercial, respectful, straight talking employment law advice. Karen Coleman of Excello Law is somebody you want in your corner. An expert in her field, Karen represents her clients by offering great advice with serious skill and tenacity. The service she provides represents fantastic value, something I do not normally associate with solicitors.

Our discussion is well worth a listen & offers some nuggets of advice to employers. In summary the key messages are:
💬 Work with your staff to work issues out early
🤝 Avoid them vs us dynamics (this is old school!)
🧡 Treat people with respect (everyone in your business will respect that)
📝 Keep a record of conversations
🚶‍♂️Help people along their journey, even if it's not with your company

This week's episode focuses on some of the best tips on how to be successful in life (and remember business is just a part of life). These are my own words and observations that are inspired by the teachings of Dr Steve Peters, shared through his book 'The Chimp Paradox'. These are my personal my favourites:

⌛ Patience (an amazing skill)
✅ Keep things simple
🏆 Do a better job of fewer things
🧡 Live in the moment (coming from a planning guru who encourages you to have a clear focus on what an amazing future looks like!)
🤔 Don't create stories in the head

01/10/2021

Don’t ask people questions if you are not interested in the answer. Don’t underestimate the ability of people to see through fake questions. If you ask people how they are & are genuine about it, the following happens:

️🦸‍♂️ You have an amazing power! You might be able to help!! (that’s your job!)
🙌 The person is more likely to respect you, because you care.
📈 Respect encourages loyalty, which tends to result in people trying harder for you.
🧡 You never know when you might need help in return. Just because you’re the boss doesn’t mean you are immune from needing help.
🤝 If they are managers themselves – this approach may well be replicated within their own team (the ripple effect).

Today's episode is a value packed interview I did with the best recruitment company in Staffordshire: Lee Quoroll & Steven Dufresne of Logic Resourcing. The job market has never been more competitive and knowing how to recruit is a superpower that many companies lack, so there's no better time to drop this cracker of an episode! We go in-depth on what is takes to get recruitment right including:

🎁 Think about your offering (candidates are vetting you too!)
✅ Define your company culture
⏰ Have patience (no quick shortcuts for long term retention)
🤝 Set the right scene on interview day
