Huge thank you to our speakers, Jonny Prest and Dr Sandra Lee for their presentations and talks at our Gather session yesterday.

Jonny gave an engaging talk on ‘remodeling your business for net zero success’, and Sandra followed with insights on the university partnerships and how they can support businesses to achieve their sustainability goals.

With an interactive excercise on and a discussion around what we are doing as small businesses to support the goals - currently not enough. For us to make real change requires radical thinking and radical action, and it starts with leadership.

Another interesting, inspiring event. Thanks to all who joined us 🙏.

We are delighted to announce that team Embark has been commissioned by Leicester City Council to evaluate the Leicester Low Carbon Transport Accelerator project, funded by , which commenced in September 2018 and is due to complete all activity in summer 2023.

We have been tasked with delivering a summative evaluation of the programme in order to highlight best practice and lessons learned.
The commission will complete by the end of June 2023.

Happy St Georges Day all 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

A bit of history for you....🤓

Saint George is thought to have been born into a noble Christian family in the late third century in what is now modern-day Turkey. As a soldier and officer in the Roman army, he refused to denounce his faith and persecute fellow Christians.

Admired for his bravery - the patron saint of England has captivated British imaginations since the Crusades and the Hundred Years' War.

In 1415, St George's Day was made a national feast day and holiday in England, an annual event which continued until the 18th century. However, after the Act of Union between England and Scotland in 1707, the celebration and significance diminished.

Saint George's Day has always been associated with roast beef, bread and butter pudding and, if you are lucky, a good tea of scones, strawberry jam and cream and of course, a good old English pint 🍺

How are you celebrating the day?

Huge thank you to the team at Forest Green Rovers Football Club for the insightful tour.

We had the pleasure of learning about how the greenest football club in the world operates, from the rain water that is collected and reused for the pitch, to the rapseed oil produced locally and reused for and how they have managed to embed the clubs culture in the local community surrounding them.

It was a fascinating trip and we are looking forward to sharing ideas with our local clubs who are following the same lead.

Thank you to Mark Charlton for arranging 👏🏼

We are thrilled to announce that team Embark will be delivering a webinar in partnership with the Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership helping businesses combine profit with purpose.

The session will cover how to get started, different models of CSR, how you can report impact and of course will be interactive with our guests.

You will understand how to create an authentic CSR strategy and how to report and measure it.

CSR is a growing trend with SME's and as consumer behaviours change and people value businesses that positively contribute to society, it is not a case of IF you should incorporate CSR into your model, but WHEN.

Our advice. Sooner rather than later.

Join us on the 3rd May at 12pm and we will show you how to do it.

A bit of context for our next Gather session.

Are we killing the oceans drop by drop?

Data and satellite images show oil spills over five years that threaten species like orca whales.

Introducing our first speaker for our April session of Gather!

Chris Desai, Global Director of ® 200 will be joining us to share insight on the incredible work the team have been doing globally for our Oceans and Waterways.

"UOCEAN® 2050 represents a pioneering and practical approach to tackling the urgent global issue of ocean plastics. As a non-profit charitable grassroots organization, our mission is to eliminate ocean plastics on a global scale.

Through collaborative efforts with partners from various sectors, including volunteers, individuals, communities, governments, schools, universities, and the private sector, we aim to forge a circular economy of sustainable behaviours that support the removal of ocean and river plastics from canals, rivers, beaches, and the open ocean. At the core of our mission, we are committed to establish agents of change globally.

We recognize that the fight against ocean plastics is not just an environmental issue but a social equity issue. That is why we are also dedicated to empowering underprivileged and isolated ethnic minority communities to thrive in conservation.

In addition to our cleanup efforts, we deploy educational toolkits in academic institutions, bridging the gaps that are leading to climate change. We also advocate for stricter laws on plastics, their disposal, and global protection of our oceans. We welcome collaboration with individuals and organizations who share our passion for preserving the environment and promoting social equity. At UOCEAN® 2050, we are committed to creating a more sustainable future for all."

We cannot wait to meet Chris and hear his insights!

We had a lovely day at the soft launch of the Butterfly Beacons bus, Rosa on Saturday afternoon.

The Fairfield pub was bustling with stall holders of all sorts of items, including cake and sweets, crafts and sewing, seed planting and free school uniforms.

Emma Hall and the team did a wonderful job at creating a day filled with love and connection. Each of the stall holders were overcoming their own challenges, some of them had never done an event before.

The atmosphere was warm and friendly with excited children (and Chris) as the Easter Bunny made an appearance.

A beautiful event and we are looking forward to seeing many more from this amazing team!
