Joined-Up Working Associates had a great day exhibiting at the The Midlands Business Network event at the National Motorcycle Museum (this venue is great and a must see for motorcycle enthusiasts!)

Our stand was unique – Sue Grogan - Workplace Wellbeing Consultant and David Kite were the only ones delivering services to businesses with employees going through divorce – to reduce the impact of the individual productivity loss by 80%.

This loss can severely hit on the bottom line.

For employees, we have individual support through Divorce Consultancy and Life Planning after Divorce.

It was lovely to have some serious conversations and good to meet Muktadir Choudhury, Jacob Putt, Rowena Wilding, Laura Howard, Andrea Sunderland, Chelsea Melbourne, Judi McSweeney, and Vickie Seymour-Perry

On a personal note – I admired some amazing footwear and managed NOT to eat all the chocolate that was available!

Divorce and relationship breakdowns aren’t just personal challenges and struggles—they’re workplace disruptors with real financial consequences for UK businesses.

While divorce rates have been gradually declining, 42% of marriages in the UK still end in separation, according to the Office for National Statistics. Add in civil partnerships and cohabiting couples, and the numbers just get bigger.

A survey by Relate found nearly one in five people felt on the brink of a break-up, showing just how widespread the issue is.

How break-ups affect workplaces

The emotional and logistical challenges of a relationship breakdown don’t stay at home; they follow people to work, affecting their productivity, attendance, and the overall performance for their employer.

Consider this: workplace studies show that 16% of employees have seen colleagues take sick leave due to the stress of a relationship breakdown. Another 15% have noticed a significant drop in productivity among affected teammates. The ripple effects are hard to ignore.

Break-ups are a part of life, but their negative effects at work don’t have to be. By addressing this issue head-on, businesses can support their teams while maintaining performance and morale.

Training managers and team leaders to recognise the signs of employee stress and signposting them to support is essential. This not only helps employees navigate tough times but also protects workplace productivity.

I’m Sue Grogan – and I’ve got some questions about dementia for you

- Do you know someone who’s showing the early signs of dementia?
- Do you know someone who’s been diagnosed with dementia?
- Do you know how you can help them?
- Do you know how you’re going to look after yourself?

I’ve written this book to help you or someone you know

Just a warning - it’s not going to be easy but having information will be key to how they and you cope with this very difficult situation.

The book is called “Dementia: A Practical Handbook for Working People Caring for a Loved One”.

It’ll help people get their head together, get some really useful information and find out where to get help
You don’t need to be in midlife or working though for it to be useful

You can buy it on Amazon – just search in the book section for me (Sue Grogan) or use this link –

I know how difficult caring and working can be - I hope it’ll help you
