How beautiful is this?! π
THE SLEIGH RIDE
When I was young a Christmas tale was told, quite magically to me
About a boy who found himself, somewhere you never see
For it was in the back of Santa's sleigh, in amongst his sacks of toys
That were ready to be delivered, to all the girls and boys
How he ended up there, is a story in itself
It all happened on a Christmas Eve, when he awoke and saw a tiny Elf
The Elf had come back down the chimney, as a gift had been mislaid
Meant for another house, but under the little boy's tree, mistakenly laid
Unfortunately he was a clumsy Elf, and he'd tripped over the cat
Awakening the little boy, with his jingling Elf hat
The boy jumped up, and threw off the bed covers
Ran over to his window, where he saw many others ~
Elves that is, in their little green suits
In a scurry of activity, of many pointy Elf boots
The boy raced up to the attic, and prised a small window ajar
Out onto the roof, and there beneath the Christmas star
Was a magnificent sleigh, all shiny and red
Was he asleep and still dreaming, in his warm cosy bed?!
He decided to get nearer, and take a better look
It was just like a scene, from his favourite picture book
Though there was no sign of Santa, just the sleigh and reindeer
All jingling and jangling, and full of good cheer
Along with the Elves, who he was careful to avoid
He didn't want to alert them, or make them annoyed
So quickly he tumbled, into the back of the sleigh
Where many gifts lay waiting, as well as some magic reindeer hay
Just then he heard the sound, of footsteps across the rooves
Which in turn caused the reindeer, to stamp their many hooves
And a great big, bearded figure, all suited in red
Climbed into the sleigh, and shouted 'full steam ahead' !
The Elves all got in, and sat in their seats
All chattering and chuckling, and eating their sweets
As all were oblivious, to the little boy in the back
In amongst the reindeer hay, and all the toy sacks
All snuggled was he, in amongst the warm hay
As he peeked over the top, of the now flying sleigh
Over the tops of the trees, and the towns
The wind whipping and whistling, up, down and around
Above oceans and hills, they travelled at speed
On a mission to fulfil, Santa's Christmas Eve deed
Glaciers and mountains, flew by down below
While snowflakes sped past them, all sparkling and a'glow
An exhilarating ride, to the ends of the Earth
From London to Madrid, and from Bali to Perth
The little boy watched, with eyes big and wide
As with lightning speed Santa made his deliveries, but then the boy became tired
And his eyes slowly closed, and he rested his head
Until he awoke and he saw, he was back in his own bed
What a dream, what a vision, and now it was Christmas Day!
And as he dashed downstairs to his presents, he didn't notice the hay
That lay on his pillow, having fell out of his hair...
A true story, I was assured, that with you I now share..
