Something a little different arrived at Cask23 this week.
We had the pleasure of welcoming Richard from Retribution Distilling in Somerset, an independent English whisky distillery where one person does it all – from malting the barley and cleaning the stills to fermentation, distillation and cask experimentation.
We were fortunate to sample three fascinating whiskies:
🥃 3 Years Old – New American Oak – 52% ABV
🥃 3 Years Old – Oloroso Hogshead – 53% ABV
🥃 An experimental cask at just over 38 months old – matured for 18 months in chestnut before spending 20 months in a second-fill bourbon cask, bottled at a robust 60% ABV.
It's always refreshing to see producers willing to experiment rather than follow the crowd. This is exactly the sort of whisky that gets enthusiasts talking.
Now we'd love to hear from you...
👉 Have you tried a whisky from Retribution Distilling yet?
If you have, which expression impressed you most?
If not, would a small, experimental English distillery like this tempt you to explore beyond the more established names?
Leave your thoughts below—we're genuinely interested to hear what fellow whisky lovers think.
