If ever you needed a reminder of how long Futaba radio control has been serving the hobby, how beautifully it’s always been made and, ergo, how each and every product has quality and longevity running through it like a stick of rock, take a look at this M-Series FD20M sail winch servo.

As mint as the day it was made, it's 122oz-in torque is just shy of the current 9kg-cm S-A301 standard digital servo, nearly 8x less than the top end HPS-A703 and an indication of just how far we’ve come in the last 40+ years.

No.83 cutting a dash through the chop at the DF regatta in Bournemouth last weekend. At the helm (okay the sticks; T6K), none other than Ken Binks, one of Team Futaba’s most experienced and respected members and an R/C icon of both competitive sailing and flying.

It’s an image that highlights the excitement of R/C yacht racing – the challenging conditions, the pace, the skill, the importance of the boat’s trim, the science behind the set-up and the thrill of being out front with clear water between you and the chasing fleet.

About to begin your R/C journey? Looking for a perfect trainer? Grab an expert and ask them to tell you why the DPR Falcon would be the ideal choice. If they know their stuff, they'll talk about the extended moment arm and in-flight stability. They'll mention the high-lift (undercambered t.e.) wing section and its correlation with slow flight. They'll suggest that you can't go wrong with a trike undercarriage for ground handling and they'll talk about the durability and all-weather capability of a larger balsa-built airframe. They'll admit the practicality of cowl cheeks, an upright engine, easy access and safe starting, and they'll probably confirm that the carefully designed colour scheme is perfectly suited to assist with orientation.

Add to this, easy fuselage access, extended flight times, simple 4-channel control and a quality of build and finish that’ll raise a knowing eyebrow, and herein lies a trainer that won't easily be beaten if learning to fly easily and confidently is your aim.
