An Auction of Kintsugi in Aid of Cancer Research UK

**BIDDING NOW OPEN**

Tennants is delighted to be supporting this timed online auction in aid of Cancer Research UK, showcasing the ancient Japanese art of kintsugi. The lots in the sale have been created by Nicole Campbell MBE, a practitioner of kintsugi who has used ceramics donated by Michelin-starred and Michelin-listed restaurants from around the UK, including L'Enclume, Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons and The Black Swan at Oldstead.

Nicole has repaired the pieces using traditional methods and gold to create unique and beautiful objects. Nicole says: “The philosophy behind kintsugi is ‘That which was broken, once repaired, becomes stronger and more beautiful’ – a wonderful metaphor for life and in particular for those of us who are living with cancer. It is about honouring scars, rather than hiding them, and finding hope in renewal.”

The sale is thought to be the UK's first dedicated kintsugi auction, providing a unique opportunity to purchase a piece of a service used by the UK's finest restaurants, whilst raising money for Cancer Research UK. Every penny raised will be donated to the charity.

THE BOX TREE, ILKLEY

An array of furniture, pictures, ceramics and furnishings from the award-winning Ilkley restaurant The Box Tree, are going up for auction ahead of a £500,000 refurbishment taking place this summer. The selected contents will comprise over ninety lots.

The Box Tree is located in one of the oldest buildings in Ilkley, a farmhouse dating from 1720. In the late 19th century, under the ownership of businessman Septimus Wray, the box trees were first planted at the house and thus it became known as Box Tree House. In later years, the building housed both an antique shop and a tearoom. The restaurant was opened in 1962 by Malcolm Reid and Colin Long and quickly became on of the North’s most successful restaurants, where renowned chefs Michael Truelove, Edward Denny and Marco Pierre White each made their mark on the menus and the history of the restaurant over the years. Today, it is listed in the illustrious Michelin Guide under the watch of Head Chef Brayden Davies.
