Have you seen a load of bees "swarming" around your bird box or wall vents this week? Read this before you call a beekeeper.

Local Facebook groups are absolutely flooded right now with people asking for recommendations to get rid of bees, usually asking if a local beekeeper wants them.

Here is the honest truth from a local pest controller: Beekeepers only deal with honeybees. What you are seeing at the minute is almost certainly Bombus hypnorum—the Tree Bumblebee.

They love nesting up high, which is why they constantly take over abandoned bird boxes or move into wall cavities through old, redundant overflow pipe holes.

Why does it look like they are swarming?
With the warm weather we're having, the inside of a wall cavity or a wooden bird box gets incredibly hot. When you see a massive crowd of them hovering or clumping together outside the entrance hole, they aren't swarming to attack. The colony is literally just hanging out on the porch to cool down and get some airflow into the nest.

What should you do?
In a few weeks, their natural summer cycle will be over and they will be gone completely. If they are high up or out of the way, my advice is always to just leave them alone and let them do their thing.

However, I know nature doesn’t always pick a convenient spot. If they’ve nested right next to your front door, a trampoline, or a narrow walkway where it’s a genuine safety hazard, we have options:

Relocation (The Best Option): If they are in a bird box, I can unhook the entire box and move it to a quiet, convenient corner of your garden. If you just want them gone but don't want them killed, I often relocate these boxes to my own backyard, where they can finish their cycle in peace.

Treatment (The Last Resort): If relocation isn't possible (like deep inside a wall void) and they are making it genuinely unsafe for your family to use the garden or house, I am qualified to treat and destroy the nest safely.

If you've got a busy nest and aren't sure what to do, drop me a message or a photo. I’ll always give you an honest opinion.

Here's a pic of me and the boss removing a bumblebee nest from a garden a couple of years ago. Just for the Facebook algorithm.

Noticed hundreds of tiny dirt mounds on your lawn this week? Don't panic, it’s not baby moles.

If your turf is suddenly covered in little mini-volcanoes of soil, you might think you’ve got a massive pest problem starting. But if you sit still and watch them for a minute, you’ll see tiny, fuzzy bees popping their heads out.

These are solitary mining bees.

Unlike honeybees or wasps, they don’t live in a massive social hive with a queen. Every single female is an independent worker. She digs her own little tube in the soil, leaves a bit of pollen, lays an egg, and seals it up.

A lot of people call me out in May terrified because their lawn looks "alive" with them. Here is the honest truth from a pest controller:

They are completely harmless. The males can’t sting, and the females are so docile you’d practically have to step on one barefoot to get a reaction.

They are brilliant pollinators for your garden.

They’ll be completely gone in a few weeks.

If someone tries to charge you to "treat" your lawn for these, tell them to get lost. They are a sign of healthy soil, and they’re doing your garden a massive favour. Leave the mower in the shed for another week if you can, and just enjoy watching them do their thing.

Have a look at your grass today—are you seeing them yet?

I have loads of pictures of solitary bees somewhere in my archive.... But today I couldn't find a single one of them......

Why a "Planned Approach" is about more than just compliance

In the eyes of the HSE, the quality of a business's defense is only as good as the documentation behind it. Too often, I visit sites that are relying on generic, non-site-specific risk assessments—template documents purchased from wholesale vendors who have never even set foot on the property.

I believe a professional service requires a more precise, authored approach.

I am currently managing the Environmental Risk Plan for a site in Bolton. Because the property borders a high-pressure railway embankment, it requires a strategy rooted in a strict "Planned Approach" to protect both the building and the local environment.

To me, professional responsibility means:

✅ Site-Specific Strategy: I conduct a thorough survey to identify the root cause of activity and author a bespoke plan before any intervention begins.

✅ Surgical Monitoring: I focus on protecting the building infrastructure using strategic monitoring points. This allows me to detect incursions early and secure the building effectively and responsibly.

✅ Bespoke Authorship: I personally author every Site Survey, Environmental Risk Assessment, and Method Statement. These are not generic downloads; they are legally robust documents designed specifically for your unique infrastructure.

✅ Accountable Reporting: Every visit is followed by a detailed report authored on-site. This ensures you have a continuous, transparent audit trail that reflects the actual state of your property in real-time.

Who is this for?
While the average homeowner rarely needs this level of technical documentation, it is mission-critical for Warehouse Managers, Facilities Managers, and Business Owners. If you are responsible for a commercial site, you don't just need a pest controller—you need a partner who ensures your site stays compliant, your staff stay safe, and your professional reputation remains protected.

I don’t just provide a service; I provide the documented peace of mind you need to know your site is safe, compliant, and responsibly managed.

I’m not going to write a book you won't read. Here is a 1-page Audit instead.

"Most rodent problems aren't a mystery—they are a checklist.

After years of investigating homes across the North West, I’ve realized that 90% of infestations start with the same few 'VIP features' that homeowners simply don’t notice.

I’ve put together a 1-page DIY Audit Checklist. It’s short, it’s punchy, and it covers the exact spots I check when I first walk onto a property—from the shed base to the broadband cable entry.

Here’s the deal: This isn’t a textbook. It’s a 5-minute walk-through of your garden and home. It won’t solve the problem for you, but it will tell you if you have one.

The real value? Once you’ve done the audit, give me a bell. We can go over what you found, and I’ll give you a professional’s take on the next steps.

Want the PDF?
Just comment 'AUDIT' below and I’ll send it over to your DMs.

Be patient though, it may take me a few hours to check and send the message.

🛑 The £20 Garden Centre Myth: Why I dig up "Sonic Mole Repellers" every single week.

As the spring mole pressure builds, hardware stores and Amazon are pushing vibrating plastic sticks that promise to clear your lawns, paddocks, and estates.

Let me save you the money. They don't just fail to work—they often make the problem worse.

Here is the reality from a pest control specialist:
Have you ever seen a duck or a seagull stamping its feet on wet grass? They do that because rhythmic vibrations trick earthworms into coming to the surface.

Those £20 sonic stakes do exactly the same thing. They vibrate the soil, which attracts worms. And what makes up 90% of a mole's diet? Worms.

You aren't scaring the mole away. You are literally ringing the dinner bell and concentrating their food supply right around the plastic stake. That is exactly why I regularly arrive at premium estates and find fresh molehills pushed up directly next to—and sometimes literally lifting up—these buzzing repellers.

There are no shortcuts or magic wands in professional pest management.

True mole control relies entirely on traditional fieldcraft—reading the soil, locating the main subterranean feeding runs, and deploying surgical, toxin-free traps.

I don't use gimmicks, and I don't use gasses or poisons. I rely on experience, and I map every single trap using ServiceM8 GPS tracking to guarantee 100% of my equipment is accounted for and removed when the job is done.

Save your £20. If you have an estate, paddock, or garden that needs clearing properly and safely, bring in a specialist.

"Health & Safety." "Compliance." "RAMS." 📋🥱

Let’s be honest: when you have an angry wasp nest in your loft or a rat gnawing through your floorboards, the last thing you want to hear about is paperwork. A lot of people think industry compliance is just unnecessary red tape that slows the job down.

But in the world of professional pest control, compliance isn’t red tape. It’s your safety net. Here is why hiring a fully compliant, RSPH Level 2 qualified professional actually matters for your home and garden:

🐾 It Protects Your Pets & Local Wildlife: I don’t just throw down toxic bait and hope for the best. Operating under strict CRRU (Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use) guidelines means I use targeted, often toxic-free trapping and exclusion methods first. It ensures zero risk to your dogs, cats, or local wildlife like owls and hedgehogs.

🌳 It Protects Your Environment: Got a wasp nest hanging right over your beloved koi pond? A "quick spray" from a hardware store can devastate a water ecosystem. Strict environmental risk assessments mean I know exactly which highly targeted compounds to use to neutralize the wasps without harming your fish or garden.

🛡️ It Protects Your Property: Whether it's a domestic garden or a commercial estate, having complete Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and comprehensive Public Liability Insurance means there is zero guesswork. You are protected from start to finish. I won't be putting my foot through your ceiling and claiming on my liability insurance (hopefully).

At Mole Management, I take the extra time to stay fully trained, vetted, and compliant because your peace of mind is worth doing the job right the first time. No cowboys, no open-ended hourly rates, and no dangerous shortcuts. Just proven, safe results.

⚠️ Planning your first lawn cut of the year soon? Read this before you start the mower! ⚠️

When a mole pushes soil up to the surface to create a hill, they don't just bring up dirt. They drag up hidden stones, pebbles, and hard debris from deep underground and leave them sitting right in your grass.

Hitting a hidden molehill doesn't just blunt your mower—a single rogue stone can completely shatter the blades on a rotary mower or cause catastrophic damage to a ride-on, costing hundreds of pounds to fix.

Before you fire up the mower this spring, make sure your lawn is actually safe to cut.

At Mole Management, I can clear your resident mole and protect your machinery before the mowing season officially begins.

My alarm often beats the sun! Most mornings start early, usually with a good coffee and a check of the weather. Knowing the ground conditions is key to a successful day of mole catching. But also, if it's not raining, I'll probably use the bike.

8:30 AM: First job! Today took me to a lovely garden in Horwich where a prized lawn was under siege. Each mole problem is unique, a puzzle to solve. I spent some time mapping out the runs, looking for the most active tunnels.

Mid-morning: It’s all about precision and I'm off to Edgeworth. Carefully setting the traps, making sure they’re perfectly placed for maximum effectiveness and, of course, completely humane. This isn't just about catching moles; it's about understanding their habits and clearing them out for good.

Lunch on the go! Then making my way to the next location – sometimes a private garden, other times a sprawling paddock or a local sports field. Every day is different, and I love the variety.

Afternoon checks in Bury: The satisfaction of finding a newly cleared run, knowing another lawn is on its way back to perfect health! Before I leave, I'll always ensure the area is tidy and brief the client on what to expect next.

Then a final starbucks visit for a coffee, warm up and totally irrelavent photo of the bike at Heap Bridge.

It’s a rewarding job, helping people reclaim their gardens across Bolton, Bury and the North West. Every mole caught means a happier homeowner!
