Fire safety breaches are still making the news, and businesses are still being fined.

Having a Fire Risk Assessment carried out is only the starting point. Fire safety needs to be managed and reviewed, and any issues identified need to be dealt with.

If you’re responsible for a building, ask yourself:

• Is your Fire Risk Assessment up to date?
• Have all recommended actions been completed?
• When were your fire doors last inspected?
• Have any defects been repaired?
• Are your inspection and maintenance records current?
• Has anything changed within the building since your last assessment?

These are the things that can easily get pushed down the list when a business is busy. Unfortunately, they’re also the things that can lead to serious problems when they’re overlooked.

Don’t wait for an inspection to tell you something isn’t right.
