Such an honour to share a stage with inspirational yesterday who shared his story for Hospitality Action 's Accidental Counsellor event.💚

The event was focussed on support for managers who often find themselves as 'Accidental Counsellors', I shared some simple, tangible tips to give managers confidence to listen without 'fixing people', setting boundaries and the importance of signposting; all without getting overwhelmed yourself.

When you try carry every tray - eventually something gets dropped.

I absolutely LOVE working with Hospitality Action delivering their hospitality focussed Mental Health First Aid and Awareness sessions. Training that we work so hard to bespoke to your needs, NEVER a patronising tickbox session, ALWAYS inclusive with tangible follow up 🫶

Grateful for the opportunities that 2026 has brought so far, not only has it meant I have met many, many inspiring people and worked with genuinely awesome and caring companies, it has also meant I have had time to spend with those that are most important to me💚⚓

Just being there, is sometimes all that you need to do to take action and be there for someone or yourself.

You don't need to have answers straight away, just showing up with kindness, asking questions and listening without judgement is the most important thing. 💪

Action 3 - learn that failure is ok too.

We all want to be appreciated and recognised, it makes us feel good about ourselves. Remembering to celebrate successes- however small is so important at work so people feel included and valued.

It is also important to recognise that innovation doesn't come from success alone, and learning and growth come from making mistakes ,so make sure that you recognise that in your teams. Allow mistakes to happen (safely) and people will learn anticipate them in the future.

We are all different and that makes the world so special - however because of this we often don't see things from other's perspective or see the impact our behaviour has on others.

We spend so much time at work and manager's have as much impact on our wellbeing as our partners.
We choose our partners for how they make us feel - we often don't get that same privilege at work.

We can all have empathy, some of us may need to work on this more than others, and that is ok - with knowledge comes understanding, with understanding comes awareness, the next stage is ACTION.

Pushing through, skipping breaks, not taking time off - quickest way to burnout!
When you have a break, it is proven that you will be more productive, objective and happier.
Role model this with your team - they and you will thank you for it 💚

Awareness matters, but without action change doesn't happen.
This we will be sharing some top tips of how to support people at work, and create a mentally healthy workplace - spoiler alert - there is no rocket science involved or temporary gimmicks.

First up - communicate, communicate, communicate. This includes listening to your teams as well as telling. If people feel like you will listen to the good stuff, they are more likely to talk when the bad stuff happens.

So keep people in the loop, communicate changes so people can plan- uncertainty brings stress.

Even small actions can make a small difference.

Too often the focus is on what neurodivergent people find hard and not what makes them brilliant 💚

So this post is for the amazing people who are creative, problem solvers. Those who have natural empathy for others, those with amazing attention to detail and those who have energy and deep focus.

The world, workplaces and schools need more people to learn these things so neurodivergent people can be truly accepted, accommodated and celebrated 🫶
