We're wrapping up another year of cycling with a cosy stop at The Nook. ☕

This year has seen some of our members complete some amazing rides and, while doing so, raise incredible amounts of money for a range of charities. Join us next month as we say a big chapeau to everyone who has got on their bike over the last 12 months and achieved, no matter how big or small.

We'll be enjoying a steady ride along a flat, 21-mile loop, which will once again start and finish at The Nook Coffee House in Welton. We can then warm up with a delicious cup of coffee, a bite to eat and hear about everyone's adventures before our winter break.

To ensure we know how many people will be attending, please book your place and register your interest. More details can be found at https://www.strava.com/clubs/1132749/group_events/3413903688593314278

Summer may be over, and some of us may have the holiday blues, but a leisurely bike ride will, I'm sure, put a smile back on our faces.

If you're free next Thursday (11th September), we'll be running our next SPOKE business networking ride starting and finishing at the Stokes Lawn Café. As per usual, the ride will be followed by coffee, cake and a chance to do some networking. For more information and details on how to book your place, visit https://www.strava.com/clubs/1132749/group_events/3398624565172630786.

A huge chapeau to our members, Chris, Jason and Wayne who completed the MASSIVE 200 mile Chase The Sun ride last Saturday.

200 miles. On a bike. In just one day! 👏👏👏

All three were raising money for great causes and collectively, have raised almost £6,000! 🤩

This summer, three of our members, Wayne, Chris and Jason, will take part in the Chase the Sun - Cycle The Longest Day 200-mile bike ride - a physical, mental and navigational challenge.

Chase the Sun is an annual ride from East to West Coasts on the longest day of the year. They'll be traversing the country, setting off at sunrise from Whitley Bay on England’s east coast, with the aim of reaching the west coast Scottish town of Ayr before the sun sets. It’ll be a tough (and very long!) day but by putting in plenty of training, a challenge we're sure they can complete.

Wayne will be raising money for SPOKE's chosen charity, Shine Lincolnshire, a mental health and wellbeing charity dedicated to strengthening communities and ensuring that everyone has access to the support they need.

Donations received will help Shine Lincolnshire to provide support through weekly wellbeing coffee mornings, online access to support networks and newsletters outlining organisations in Lincolnshire that provide activities to support mental wellbeing.

If you would like to support the charity, you can donate via the JustGiving link https://www.justgiving.com/page/wayne-thornton-chase-the-sun.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Chris and Jason are raising money for the Stroke Association and The Gelder Charitable Trust respectively. If you would like to support them by making a donation, their JustGiving pages are as follows:

Will they be able to beat the sun? Time will tell. But any support you can offer will be sure to help them along the way.

It's almost time to dust off the bike, pump up the tyres, turn the cranks and see what state our legs are in. No doubt many of you will have been Zwift-ing over the winter, keeping yourselves in top shape and are ready for another year of cycling adventures. But for those of us who perhaps went into cycling hibernation and ate a few too many mince pies, you'll be glad to know that our first ride of the year will be a nice, easy 18.5 mile (30km) ride.

Where has the year gone? Short sleeves are now a thing of the past and the mud guards are back on our bikes and as winter looms, so does the SPOKE winter break. But there is still time for one last ride.

November's ride will start from Stokes Welton Café and initially head north to Owmby-by-Spital before heading east to Toft next Newton. Turning south, we'll then head through quiet villages of Newton by Toft, Faldingworth, Wickenby and Snelland before returning back to Welton via Scothern.

As with all SPOKE rides, there will be the opportunity to enjoy coffee and cake and a spot of networking at the café for the final time this year.

SPOKE is proud to support the charity by donating £2 of every riders entry fee to them.
