ISO 14001:2026 has now been published, replacing ISO 14001:2015 and bringing important updates to the worldโs most widely used Environmental Management System standard.
The new edition does not completely reinvent ISO 14001. Instead, it refines and strengthens the existing framework, making it clearer, more accessible, and better aligned with todayโs environmental priorities.
Key updates include:
โ
Improved guidance and simpler navigation
โ
Stronger focus on climate change, biodiversity and resource efficiency
โ
Greater emphasis on leadership and governance
โ
Better integration with wider business strategy and value chains
โ
Continued compatibility with other ISO standards, such as ISO 9001 and ISO 45001
For organisations already certified to ISO 14001:2015, now is the time to start reviewing the new requirements, identifying gaps, and preparing for transition. For those considering certification, ISO 14001:2026 offers a timely opportunity to embed environmental responsibility into everyday decision-making.
