If you have a small business and are struggling with your bookkeeping / finances but are not ready to hire a bookkeeper yet, then this session will be ideal for you!!

This is a monthly 2-hour session which is guided by a qualified bookkeeper. It includes a short informative presentation, followed by an opportunity for you to work through your bookkeeping and finances with a qualified bookkeeper on hand to help and guide you.

This is a very relaxed and welcoming session with no judgment if you are in a muddle or haven’t even made a start!

A free Excel template will be provided to those who haven’t got anything in place yet and are not ready for accountancy software.

The group is restricted to 10 people. Parking is available, but is limited hence I encourage attendees to car share and park considerately.

10 steps for a smooth month end.

As the month draws to a close, you’ll want to bring your accounts up to date.

Here's a simple checklist to ensure your monthly accounts closing is efficient and accurate:

1. Go through all bank and credit card statements.
2. Ensure all transactions are recorded and categorised correctly.
3. Send out any pending invoices.
4. Follow up on overdue payments to keep your cash flow healthy.
5. Record all expenses, no matter how small.
6. Review expenses to identify any unnecessary spending.
7. Run payroll and post your payroll journal.
8. Review your financial statements.
9. Save for tax.
10. Set goals for next month.

But first, a question: How much can you sell in a day focused solely on selling?

As a bookkeeper, I’ve seen it all but these three minor but impactful mistakes come up all the time.

Bank reconciliations.
I frequently meet business owners who don’t compare their bank balance in their software to their bank statements. Seems minor, but transactions can be “lost” without this simple check.
Purchases on personal bank accounts.
Did you buy the sellotape of the coffee on your personal card again? From missing out on VAT that can be reclaimed to truly understanding your expenses, using your personal card is a no-no.
Not chasing aged debt.
People owe you money, and we get it, chasing it up is hard, but did you know the average business has £20000 outstanding to them. Can you afford to not have that £20000?
