Happy World Environment Day! ๐Ÿ’๐ŸŒ

As part of an amazing month that sees us dive into the many worlds of nature, it is important to highlight the world we live in. A world that we ultimately owe everything to, as without its many systems, we would not be here.

From the coasts of Scotland to the Southmost point of England, from the rainforests of South America to the Savannas of Serengeti and beyond. Wild and vibrant lands can be found all across the earth, teeming with life and rich biodiversity.

As part of World Environment Day, we want to celebrate the uniqueness of the world we live in and the many creatures that dwell here. Including us!

Why not take today to appreciate the world around you? You can often find walks, trails and other pockets of the natural world near you. Let yourself reconnect and feel that bit closer to the environment that sustains all of mankind this day.

Today marks World Bee Day in celebration of all of our buzzing pollinators!

Selected to honour the birthday of Anton Janลกa, a pioneer of modern beekeeping, today is a day of awareness and celebration for an important aspect of our ecosystem.

While many think of the Honey Bee, ๐˜ˆ๐˜ฑ๐˜ช๐˜ด ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ง๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ข, foremost when talking about bees, there are in fact 270 species of bees in the UK, the majority of which are solitary bees.

These wild solitary bees are responsible for the vast majority of pollination and support healthy crops across our island nation. It is critical that they are protected alongside their more 'celebrity' cousins to ensure the flourishing of crops and wildflowers.

For us here at International Pheromone Systems, our work aims to replace the use of pesticides in pest management towards this end. As many bees come into contact with farmland, pesticides can easily harm them. Killing hundreds of bees each year.

Our pheromone systems are target-specific, so we aim to avoid harming our insect friends while still preventing the ravages of uncontrolled pest populations.

Here is to our small, hard workers.

We wanted to wish Sir David Attenborough a happy centenary and a happy birthday! ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒ

A titan of television, a fierce advocate for the natural world and an inspiration to thousands working or wishing to work with the environment.

Sir David Attenborough for decades, since 1953, has shown a keen ability to bring nature to millions of people worldwide while keeping them engaged and invested in the lives of even the smallest creatures.

His ability to convey the meaning and beauty of the natural world has been an inspiration to so many who have gone on to pursue careers in biology, entomology, the natural sciences, and more.

His work is more than education; it has been a tireless legacy of convincing the world to care deeply about the nature around them and consider how we can sustain it for generations to come.

A figure of hope, science and love for the environment. Here is to a fantastic man and his lifelong journey! ๐Ÿ†

We are more than happy to see ๐˜ˆ๐˜ต๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜จ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฏ๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ด ๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ถ, a parasitic wasp genus recently identified, named in his honour for his 100th birthday!

Data based research is the foundation to looking for solutions!
"However, the researchers also uncovered a more concerning shift: agricultural pests are on the rise. In regions such as East Asia and the UK, pest species like the rice leaf roller moth (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis) and the brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens) have increased sharply, while beneficial insects may be declining, a change that is masked by the overall stability in total numbers."

These insects, including pollinators, predators, and crop pests, play a vital role in moving nutrients, energy, and genetic material across ecosystems. Studying them has proven notoriously difficult, as they spend much of their lives high in the atmosphere.

"Woodland owners and managers across the country are being asked to help expand a GB-wide network of pheromone traps. Taking part will help improve understanding of the eight-toothed spruce bark beetle, Ips typographus, and will further develop the early warning system preventing the establishment and potential spread of this damaging pest."

Help protect Britainโ€™s spruce forests by installing pheromone traps and contributing vital data on the spruce bark beetle, Ips typographus.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
