So for those who noticed I printed a yellow brick road 3D printed bag (for the phone of course) here’s the reason why. The brick is a symbol an urban legend that Marsha p Johnson threw at the stonewall inn that started the stonewall riots in June 1969.
In actual fact when the police first raided the stonewall inn it was the patrons and locals that started throwing rocks bottles coins bricks etc at the police who had barricaded themselves in the stonewall inn after causing unrest and provocation to the locals and they had enough.
So the brick is a very symbolic item that the LGBTQIA+ community use today. Its use within the wizard of oz film is also symbolic of all roads leading to home a safer place. “There’s no place like home” this was also linked to Judy garlands funeral which also preceded to the stonewall riots when emotions in our community were running very high at the time. “pride is and was and always has been a protest”
So the theme for this years Manchester Pride “no place like home” was very welcomed by and for the local and wider community. We have celebrated we have laughed we have danced we have shown the world who we are. Proud, stronger together and more importantly showing the world that brick by brick we will always find a place to call home.
There’s no place like home we will always be your safe loving home. You matter, you belong and you are loved. Happy safe pride everyone. Lots of love to you all. And here’s to bringing Manchester pride back to the community. You’ve done an amazing job Manchester you should really all be very proud of yourselves. Thank you. Bring on the next two days ! X
I never thought I would ever do drag. And I have so much respect and love to those who do this on a daily basis. It’s strength it’s powerful that I can walk down the street in massive heels and it’s thanks to those at stonewall that I can and I’m able to.
So my yellow brick bag isn’t just a holder for my phone it has way more meaning to me and I will always treasure wearing it with pride and purpose for many years to come to show our history and solidarity to keep on going and remember how we got here in the first place.
