Nationwide Sureties Ltd

Nationwide Sureties Ltd Nationwide Sureties Ltd have been successfully sourcing Guarantees and Bonds for the Construction Industry since 1999.

As one of the Leading UK Surety Bond specialists we pride ourselves on our professional knowledge and ability to understand our clientโ€™s needs. With over a dozen underwriters on our panel of Surety providers, we are in a position to accommodate almost any of your Bonding requirements. Many Contractors and Sub - Contractors rely on their Bank to provide Construction Bonds and financial guarantees.

Unfortunately the Bank takes real asset security or reduces the Contractors facilities in order to provide their service. This in many cases restricts the Contractor obtaining new contracts because of reduced working capital. Some guarantee companies require the contractor to place full cash deposits or hold a percentage of stage payments that are due to the Contractor, this again reduces cash flow. In most cases Nationwide Sureties Ltd are able to place Bond requirements without the above-mentioned restrictions, even short trading histories may be considered. We can now offer support in Central Asia from our representative office in Kabul and have successfully arranged bonding requirements on behalf of Construction Contractors in Afghanistan, undertaking rebuilding and infrastructure works for the benefit of the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE)

New BSI standards published this week have set out competence requirements for building safety management, supporting industry reform in tandem with the DLUHC.

The UK National Standards Body has published three new BSI standards this week (27 July 2022), outlining competence requirements for building safety management, including Principal Designers and Principal Contractors.

The standards support industry reform, in line with the new Building Safety Act, and are intended to minimize safety risks and improve protection to consumers and occupants, including residents, in and about buildings.

The new BSI standards- also known as PASs- are designed to guarantee that occupants can have confidence in their buildings and immediate environment and that safety is a priority. Ensuring the competence of service providers and products throughout the life of a building is an essential part of this process.

Administrators for Brymor Construction and Brymor Group have warned that there is little chance of any funds being left for suppliers and subcontractors after the south east contractorโ€™s bank has been paid ยฃ2.85m it is due.

The administratorโ€™s report circulated to creditors reveals details of the pre-pack deal struck with Hampshire investment company Portchester Equity to save around 110 staff jobs.

Porchester paid ยฃ400,000 for the assets of Brymor Construction on 8 July, when the ยฃ70m revenue firm was placed into administration.

It will also pay a further ยฃ1.75m for two freehold properties held by the group business, which had a book value of ยฃ2.7m.

Construction teams working at the site of Londonโ€™s major new high-speed railway station are being protected from site vehicles thanks to the installation of concrete safety barriers.

The REBLOC RB80XA vehicle restraint system is keeping workers constructing the new Euston High Speed 2 (HS2) station safe from site traffic.

The freestanding precast concrete barriers were installed to protect workers at the main construction site from the risk of errant vehicles travelling on a stretch of a road above them.

Motorists travelling to the Commonwealth Games in the Midlands are being given a welcome boost with a new ยฃ61 million flyover on the A46 in Coventry set to open later this week.

The new 14,000-tonne flyover separates long distance and local traffic, which means drivers staying on the A46 will no longer need to slow down to use the roundabout, reducing congestion and making journeys safer. It is set to open to traffic by 6am on Friday, July 29.

Drivers using the new road for the first time are being advised that there is a temporary 40 mph speed limit in place with two lanes running in each direction while some remaining work takes place elsewhere on the structure.

The A46 links the East and West Midlands by connecting Coventry and Warwickshire to the motorway network.

Material giant Hanson is being forced to cut allocations of bagged cement to main customers as shortages deepen.

The firm also revealed it is actively looking to increase capacity by importing cement.

Although it warned that this could prove difficult in the current circumstances because the increase in demand was global and shipping availability was poor.

In a statement to customers Andrew Simpson, packed products director, said: โ€œWe implemented a packed cement allocation in May and calculated the number of daily loads per customer based on the production and distribution levels that we believed were achievable.โ€

He added: โ€œOur own concrete business has been subject to the same allocation.

โ€œRegrettably, we have been unable to maintain those levels. We have therefore taken the decision to reduce the allocation.โ€

Simpson added: โ€œWe will closely monitor these levels in line with our capabilities and release the restrictions as soon as possible.โ€

The cement market has seen a demand increase of around 30% across all sectors since mid-2020.

The news of fresh allocation cuts came as the Construction Leadership Council called for greater transparency around rationing policies amid fears that smaller firms were suffering in the face of greater buying power among ...
