Each week, we share practical workplace tips to boost team performance, enhance resident/client/ child satisfaction, and help your service shine in line with the CQC’s Single Assessment Framework and Ofsted regulated settings
✅ 1. Start Strong With Daily Briefings
Kick off each shift with a 5–10 minute team huddle. Cover:
• Key client/resident/ child updates
• Any safeguarding concerns
• Reminders on personalisation and dignity
• What “good care” looks like today
🗣 Tip: End with a positive story or shoutout to a team member.
🔐 2. Documentation Must Be Live and Person-Centred
Are support plans, risk assessments, and daily notes:
• Reflecting the current needs of the individual?
• Showing what matters to the person?
• Written in the moment, not hours later?
📋 Remember: Good documentation is your first line of defence in inspections.
💬 3. Communicate, Don’t Assume
Whether it’s with colleagues, families, or health professionals:
• Use SBAR (Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation) when handing over.
• Clarify anything unclear. Don’t guess.
• Always document key conversations and outcomes.
💡 CQC looks for evidence that information is shared clearly, especially around risk and decision-making.

🧠 4. Spotlight on Mental Capacity
This week, revisit these 2 key points with staff:
• Presume capacity unless proven otherwise
• Record clear, time-specific best interest decisions when needed
🧠 Quick refresher sessions on the Mental Capacity Act can prevent big compliance gaps.
🧼 5. Boost Infection Prevention Confidence
Remind teams:
• PPE is still essential for personal care
• Don’t skip hand hygiene audits
• Clean shared equipment between uses
✨ Ask: Would I be happy for my own relative to receive care here today?
🔎 CQC Insight: What Inspectors Want to See This Week
Focus on these Quality Statements:
• “We involve people in decisions about their care.”
• “We support people to live healthier lives.”
Ask yourself:
• How are people supported to make meaningful choices?
• Are we proactive in supporting health checks, appointments, and wellbeing goals?
🏅 Staff Shout-Out of the Week!
👏 Huge well done to all staff for managing a complex emergency calmly, or use a scenario the previous week to show recognition ! You showed true leadership under pressure!
Model this around the incident you want to give recognition for
📌 One Small Change Challenge
Encourage every staff member to make one small positive change this week – whether it’s a quicker handover, a cleaner environment, or an extra 2 minutes talking with a service user/ resident
Small steps build a great culture
