DSC Lev 1 Course - Central Scotland

We have a couple of spaces left on our July course. The Venue is Harburn Village Hall, West Calder, West Lothian. As always with our courses the cost of £315 (this includes 10% discount for members of any Facebook Stalking or Shooting Groups) includes online pre course study, practice shoot the weekend before the course, registrations, presentations, assessments.
An Estate rifle can be borrowed if you do not your own.
With the light evenings we are going to complete this course in the one day. This may be of interest to those coming from further away.
Still plenty time to do a bit home study and get DSC Lev 1 under your belt before it becomes a legal requirement.

DSC Lev 1 Course Central Scotland October 2026

The dates for our October Course are 03/04 October 2026 and the venue is Harburn Village Hall, near West Calder, West Lothian. As always our course is very much a comprehensive package which we believe gives candidates the best opportunity to attain this certificate. Our package includes an online pre course study programme, which comes highly recommended by previous candidates, an opportunity to have a practice shooting session prior to the course weekend where we can assist in ironing out any issues or just as a confidence builder, registration with DMQ, presentations over the weekend along with assessments. An Estate Rifle is available for candidates who do not possess their own rifle. Breakfast and lunch is included on the Saturday.
Our courses are always conducted in a relaxed manner with candidates from all walks of life, ages and experience.
It is now almost certain that the Scottish Government will require that anybody in Scotland who wishes to cull deer will require to have DSC Lev 1 and even before this becomes Law we have noticed that many applicants for a FAC are being guided by the Police to achieve Lev 1.
For lady stalkers we are now on Skills Hub Scotland which maybe worth exploring as they can assist with funding.

DSC Lev 1 - Central Scotland

Our Lev 1 Course includes 30 days access to an online pre course training programme which is excellent in preparing candidates for the course weekend. With this course being on 18/19 July and to get the best out of this offer a candidate would be looking to start on 18 June 2026.
I can only enroll candidates on this programme after a deposit has been paid. We will be sending out invoices for deposits at the end of May.

A couple of days back I was contacted by a person looking to achieve DSC Lev 1 and he asked about the pros and cons of atending a course weekend against an online course as offereed by BASC.
From BASC website I quote what are listed as benefits of an online course
1. Study at your own pace
2. Access the course from your mobile or desktop, at home or on the move
3. Remove the need for classroom travel (you will still need to attend a two-hour physical shooting assessment required to pass the course.)
4. Reduce time away from work and family
5. Study with 12 months access to the online platform

For several years now we include on our course an online precourse study programme. This can be downloaded onto a PC, tablet or phone.
If travelling to a classroom environment troubles you maybe stalking is not the sport for you as in terms of reaching your stalking grounds you will travel thousands of miles in your life time.
If being away from work or family troubles you again maybe stalking is not for you as you will spend many hours/days away from your work and family stalking that elusive medal beast.

What I can tell you is the benefits of attending a course weekend.
1. Our last course consisted of 20 candidates. You have just met
21 new contacts/friends (including the assessor and myself).
Almost on a daily basis I get texts or calls from previous
candidates asking for advice or looking to do Lev 2.
2. You are in a position to ask questions from your assessor. Over
and above this, even if all the other candidates have only one
years experience each there is now another combined 19
years knowledge and experiences in the room.
3. A course is an event, an enjoyable experience which you just
cannot get from your PC or phone.
4. An online course requires you to attend a shooting
assessment. Our course offers a practice weekend. What I can
tell you that if a good few of our candidates who attended the
practice weekend had just come for assessment they would
have failed.
5. If you do not have your own rifle I can supply an Estate rifle
and ammo without additional cost. BASC will provide you with
a rifle but I would think there would be costs involved.

Online stuff is no doubt the modern way but in the years I have been organising these courses I consider somewhere about 600 candidates have achieved DSC Lev 1. Not one person has ever said "that was a waste of time or money"

DSC Lev 1 - 22/23 November 2025.
Well that is another of our DSC Lev 1 courses completed. An excellent course with the candidates obviously having spent a bit of time doing pre course study and reaping the benefits.
