The Professional Development Centre

The Professional Development Centre The Professional Development Centre has the expertise that your organisation can rely on to develop

Arthur Turner and Pamela Heneberry started this Leadership development organisation in 2010, since that time PDC has increased its influence in the fields of leadership, management, coaching and mentoring. This has been achieved through a broad range of well-acclaimed programmes, (delivered often through vocational qualifications), conference presentations and a number of published academic papers

. We are particularly proud of our recently published book Critical Leadership (Heneberry, Turner & Pardey, 2019). We are delighted with our track record and have enjoyed working with a number of organisations throughout this period. The team at The Professional Development Centre Ltd (PDC) have developed creative and innovative ways of working with organisations and individuals in both public and private sectors in Wales/Cymru and Europe. We have co-created business solutions for leaders, managers, coaches and those aspiring to enter these professional occupations

Since March 2020, PDC have developed a significant on-line presence that provides innovative and real time development solutions. We are still using the skills and creative techniques of experiential learning and action learning with great success, as well as delivering one-to-one coaching sessions. Our highly qualified team associates – all specialists within this field - have also worked across the UK in delivering a wide variety of tailored courses, qualifications and programmes of development – now firmly rooted in our tailored on-line offerings and solutions.

One of our great and interesting thinkers – Theodore Zeldin asks such insightful questions.

Do you want better conversations with your partner, colleagues, family, friends, strangers or even yourself?
Have we lost the art of having meaningful conversations?

His book, Conversation: How Talk Can Change Our Lives, is a thoughtful reminder of what can happen when we slow down and truly talk.

Put the phones down. Make space for conversation. It might change more than you think.

Celebrating the Hay Festival with the wonderful Julia Gillard (former Australian PM) reminds us that women make up less than 10% of national leaders and behind this lies a pattern of unequal access to power.

What does Power look like in your organisation?

This month we sadly said “au revoir” to our amazing women on the University of South Wales Women’s Development Programme. Every year, and this is our ninth year, we get to work with women from across the university as they learn, grow in confidence and develop their leadership skills. Even in tough times these women continue to be resilient and to inspire.

Thank you all - it’s been an amazing 8 months. Delighted to have Kate Slowinski and Louise Bright with us on the last day – our champions.

In Her Words

“What a great way to spend yesterday's lunch break – listening to the first Welsh Woman to climb Everest. Here’s just some of the feedback “inspiring, emotional, though provoking and fun!

What was your take away? Mine was definitely “manage your energy not your time.”

Look out for our June In Her Words: Women Leading Wales – coming soon. In the meantime have a listen to Tori’s podcast.

Looking forward to running the next Learning Lunch with the Keys Group today. Our subject for this event is Growth Mindset - “Becoming is better than being. The fixed mindset does not allow people the luxury of becoming. They have to already be”, Carol Dweck form her book Mindset.

Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.” – Jim Rohn.

At PDC we know that managers and leaders sometimes require scaffolding… for extra support when going through times of change or trying something new! The best leadership support can be found in a qualified coach - what kind of scaffolding have you found useful?

At PDC our experienced coaches work with a range of leaders to facilitate change in thinking, behaving, understanding. To discuss further contact [email protected]

If you are looking for an excellent book on the language of leadership, recommend reading “Leadership is Language” David Marquet”

It gives an understanding of the power of language and considers the balance between deliberation and action – fits in so well with the concept of Action Learning.
