So how did I enter the world of Procurement? Like many Procurement Professionals I’ve spoken to over the years, it found me rather than something I originally pursued. As a teenager, I’d had grand thoughts of being the next Ally McBeal (🤦🏻♀️ neck scarfs and all!) and studied Law at University. I thoroughly enjoyed the course but slowly realised being a Solicitor was just not for me (and I didn’t have the legs for Ally’s short skirts anyway!). One thing that stood out though - I absolutely loved contracts. Being able to look at clauses and find those grey areas of interpretation filled me with such a buzz - I knew my career would have to involve this somehow.
Initially, I worked as a Project Manager and learned so so much, especially around strategy, finance but in particular, supplier management. I absolutely loved the procurement accepts of the projects I managed, so much so, I took a procurement position and never looked back.
I’ve worked both in the Public and Private sector, taking the good, the bad and the ugly into each new position and developed a real passion for procurement processes and strategy. So much so, I decided to start my own procurement consultancy business.
Apart from giving birth (which I’ve done twice!) it’s the scariest thing I’ve ever done. Leaving that secure pay check to follow your dreams is not for the faint hearted and I’ve lied in bed at night thinking, have I done the right thing? But I always come to the same conclusion - I’m 100% determined to succeed and provide the best procurement services out there.
I am so so passionate about businesses buying smartly, ensuring their profitability and viability going forward - in these uncertain times, I don’t think there’s anything more important, especially for small business owners.
If I achieve nothing else, I hope my passion shines through as I have bags of it (with a suitcase full of determination to boot!)
Who wants to be Ally McBeal anyway when you can just be yourself and make the impact you choose to make!
