Thank you to our three volunteers - Frances Walker (Volunteers Leader), Jane Thomson and Paula Rosewarne who helped remove self-seeded Sitka spruce from the interior area along side the top path of the Red Squirrel Trail on the last Volunteers Day on Saturday 23rd March 2025. The photos show the before and after of the cutting down.

Please note the Fife Conservation Volunteers will be working felling more large Sitka spruce at the top Red Squirrel Trail area, to the west side, on the weekend of 4th & 5th April.

Further, please note the Volunteers Day on Saturday 12th April 2025 has been cancelled. If you can help on any future Volunteers Day please visit our website or call Frances - 01301 703431.

THANK YOU!

WHY WE ARE IN NEED OF DONATIONS
FOR SUCH EVENTS?
In the last storm in Cormonachan Community Woodlands, Loch Goil, we had to deal with a large Sitka spruce tree that was partially blown over alongside the north west circular path. As this was a dangerous tree, and, beyond our own chainsaw operators training, we called out Loch Fyne Tree Surgeons who expertly felled the tree under the authorisation of our Volunteers Leader, Frances Walker.
We would like to thank CMA (Legal Charity Fund) in Glasgow who have advance funded us for such an event with £500, the actual cost of felling this tree.
We ask our visitors for a £2 donation when they visit as this is purely for the maintenance of the woodlands and as you can see is needed for the next event...

Cormonachan Community Woodlands was hit with quite a number of trees having been wind-fallen in the last storms, However, our volunteers have been dealing with these that were manageable ourselves. On the last Volunteers Day on 1st March, our Volunteers Leader, Frances Walker, and another volunteer member, David Kitson, cleared away the overhanging branches from the path in the North West corner of the woodlands near the Red Squirrel Sculpture. The photos show the path before the work was done to clear the path to be walkable again. Unfortunately, 3 volunteers were unable to attend due to being unwell on the day, one local and the others from the National Park. We are always grateful for volunteer support and thank those who came and hopefully, we will see more at the next Volunteers Day on Saturday 22nd March 2025.
If you wish to attend the next Volunteers Day, please contact Frances Walker at [email protected].
Thank you!

Thank you to three of our chainsaw operator volunteer members - Frances Walker, Tom Crowe and Marcus Steel, who cut up six wind fallen Sitka spruce trees on the Cormonachan Woodlands 2.5 km top path after the last storm on 31st January 2025.
This part of the path has been cleared, with logs now available for Ardroy OEC to store away in their wood store by Jan's Hideaway.

New signs are being erected at the entrances to Cormonachan Community Woodlands. This one is at our north car park.
We are asking visitors to the woodlands to donate £2 each to its maintenance as although it's free to use, it costs the charity money to maintain the 4.5 km of paths and 63.9 ha (158 acres) of ancient semi natural woodlands, part of Scotland's Rainforest.

Thank you to our 6 volunteers today on Saturday 9th November - 5 from the National Park and Frances Walker our CCW Volunteers Leader and Team Leader for the day, who all worked at removing the branches off the large Sitka spruce tree that was felled last Sunday by the Squirrel Trail. This brash removal was a great achiement with hand saws.
We so appreciate this volunteering help as it makes such a difference...
There is only one Volunteers Day left this year on Saturday 30th November from 10 am to 3 pm. We hope to have some local volunteers help that day, please?
There will not be further Volunteers Days until February 2025, except where there may be any potential storm damage affecting the paths in Cormonachan Community Woodlands to clear.

This is a big thank you to the 7 Fife Conservation Group Volunteers who spent 2 days felling 4 huge Sitka spruce trees to the west of the top Squirrel Trail paths and doing a lot of brash burning. This work comes under our licence to fell 210 non-native Sitka spruce, underplanted and self-seeded trees from about 40 years ago.
The area has now been cleared of over half of these trees and will be ongoing until 2026 when the area will be replanted with oaks and other native trees.
This group of volunteers has been helping us to fell the Sitka spruce for over 20 years, coming for 2 weekends a year. We are so grateful that they love doing this and are already wanting to book for next year.

On Saturday 9th November 2024, Frances, our Volunteers Leader has four National Park and two CCW volunteers for the day to continue with the maintenance of Cormonachan Community Woodlands as we need as much help as possible to keep the 4.5 km of paths in good order and look after these 63.9 ha of native rainforest.
We are a charity run entirely by volunteers. If you wish to support us and volunteer register and book at https://cormonachan-woodlands.co.uk/volunteering/
We welcome volunteers!
