🤝 Join Us for Networking at the Royal Highland Show 🤝

From 1pm onwards on Friday 19th June, we are hosting a relaxed networking session.

Enjoy refreshments, catch up with the OFS team, and connect with farmers and industry professionals from across Scotland and beyond.

As part of the afternoon, at 1.30pm, Tracey Roan (Owen Farm Services), Connie Yates (Kersia) and Mike Christian (SRUC) will provide an update on our KTIF-funded project: Improving Biosecurity and Calf Hygiene Across the Scottish Dairy Sector

Find out more about the project, the work already underway, and how you and your farm can get involved to improve biosecurity and calf hygiene.

Owen Farm Services is proud to be sponsoring and hosting the Scottish Women in Dairy Drinks Reception on our stand at this year's Royal Highland Show. This event is open to all and we encourage you to come along and support.

We’re especially excited to welcome Olympian Sophie Jackson, whose curling team has been proudly sponsored by Owen Farm Services over the past few seasons. Sophie and her teammates have worn the Owen Farm Services logo while competing on the world stage as they worked to reach the Olympic Games, and now you have the opportunity to hear the story behind that journey.

Growing up on a dairy farm in Dumfriesshire, Sophie has gone on to represent her country at the highest level of sport. During the reception, she will share her experiences, challenges and achievements, giving an insight into what it takes to progress from a farming background to competing among the world’s best athletes.

While her journey is rooted in elite sport, there are wider lessons for all of us in resilience, mindset, and handling pressure — even if you never plan to step onto a sporting arena. Her story reflects the determination and adaptability that resonate strongly within agriculture and business alike.

This is a fantastic opportunity to network with others from across the dairy industry, hear an inspiring story and enjoy some refreshments in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Soil sampling isn’t just about ticking a box — it’s one of the best tools for understanding what’s really happening beneath your feet.

With all farms in Scotland required to have sampled all Region 1 land receiving artificial fertiliser and/or organic manure by May 2028, now is a good time to plan ahead rather than facing the full cost and workload in one go.

Regular soil sampling can help:
✔️ Target fertiliser and lime applications more accurately
✔️ Improve crop and grass performance
✔️ Reduce unnecessary input costs
✔️ Support environmental compliance and future scheme eligibility

Spreading the cost of sampling over the next few years can make the process far more manageable — both practically and financially.

At Owen Farm Services we offer different levels of soil sampling to suit your farm and budget, from straightforward basic sampling through to GPS soil scanning and precision mapping services.

With a number of tenancy opportunities appearing locally, it’s a good time to remember that a strong application is about far more than simply filling in the forms.

At Owen Farm Services, we have a strong and proven track record of helping clients secure farm tenancies across the local area. Over the years, we have supported a wide range of successful applications by helping applicants build clear, realistic and professionally presented proposals that stand up to scrutiny. From detailed budgets and cashflow forecasting to business planning and practical farm management projections, we understand what landlords and agents are looking for in a modern tenancy application.

A well prepared application gives you the best possible chance to demonstrate both the viability of your business and your vision for the farm going forward.

If you’d like to discuss preparing a tenancy application, feel free to get in touch with the team on 01461 600540 or [email protected]

Collin Dodds, from Chapelton Farm in Castle Douglas, is stepping up to raise funds for RSABI by taking on the Cape Wrath trail on 1 June. Collin, along with his partner, Kate Little, will tackle one of the UK’s most challenging long‑distance hikes, starting in Fort William and navigating remote Highland terrain to reach the northwesternmost point of mainland Britain in just two weeks.

Speaking about why he’s taking on the challenge, Collin said: “As a community, we need to keep talking to each other, sharing our issues and ensuring people do not feel alone. RSABI is a charity very close to my heart and it’s important that their work continues.”
