I was in a client’s home recently and she said:

“I tidy up, it looks good for a day or two… and then it’s right back where it started.”

And honestly? She wasn’t doing anything wrong.

This is what I see in almost every home (even from my work on ITV).

It’s not about effort. It’s that the system underneath everything doesn’t work for your real life.

So things creep back.
Surfaces fill up again.

Folding towels is great for motor skills and keeps them busy for a while, win win.

You have to have faith

After working in so many homes, these are a few things I’ve learnt that I’ll stand by every single time 😅

but because I’ve seen what actually works in real life.

No excuses!

Working with busy people especially busy women across the Boomer, Gen X, Millenial and having to twoGen Zer daughters I’ve seen it all when it comes to the typical things they hold onto.

The three main reasons are:

Sentiment- Boomers and Gen X you top the tables here

“I will use it later” - Boomers through to Millenials do this a lot. Gen Z will replace rather than hold onto things

“I’ll sell it”- all generations will do this but boomers and Gen X tend to hold onto items for longer before actually selling it

These may be valid reasons but they are only valid as long as they follow these rules

If it doesn’t mean that much to you today as it did when you first decided to keep it get rid of it - if it does then honour it properly.

If you haven’t used it in the last 12 months - get rid of it

If you haven’t sold it in the last three months donate it

No excuses!
