I decided that it is time for another FREE online PhD Masterclass😀. This time we wil cover "what I wish I had known about publishing".

I created this PhD Masterclass for you if you are planning on publishing your work for the first time. You might want to know more about the publication process, and maybe you feel insecure about where to start?

Wooowww, it has been a while! How have you been?

After the first Academic Writing Week back in JuneI:
🥲 got Covid
🏡 moved to my new house
👯 had many visits from family and friends
☀️ had a fully booked holiday home (my former house😀) with lovely guests to take care off
🧐 got an accepted first author paper ánd (to keep things transparant😉) a rejected paper
🌍 went on a three-week holiday to South Africa!
😊 finished my parttime Postdoc
👀 new medical and scientific writing clients

I feel that everything is coming together now in my business, doing the things that I really like with a lot of autonomy and freedom🤩.

My main services center around providing academic support:
- for PhD candidates via online courses and as an academic skills trainer
- for scientific events as a host
- for companies and institutes as a scientific and medical writer

Now that I am doing more and more freelance medical- and scientific writing I decided to step up my game and become a member of the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA). This week I found their magazine in my mail box. What's better than reading and learning on a Friday afternoon?☺️

Spanish mornings!🇪🇦

Last week I was assigned as a moderator for a PhD and Postdoc Career day for the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. It was a beautiful day and I was happy to combine it with visiting friends and famiky💛.

1. It's accepted with minor revisions
2. The due date is well after my holidays

Super happy with this result!😀

And... full disclosure: this manuscript got an immediate desk rejection three times before it was sent out for review.

What's the whole point of doing a PhD if you don't have time to learn how to do research?🤔

Yesterday I was approached by someone, let's call him Peter, who asked me to create a questionnaire in a software tool for him.

Peter:
- Just started with his PhD next to having a (well-respected) full-time management job.
- Says he doesn't have time to learn any new research software tools, because he is too busy
- Wants me to do the job for him

It makes me quite sad that someone who has just started with his PhD project, is contacting me to do the work for him. I think this is definitely not the way to go. In the end, a PhD is hard work and I believe that everyone should be an independent scientist after getting your title👩🏼‍🔬🧑‍🔬.

It makes me wonder: should people like Peter be doing a PhD at all🤔? Why do people like this start with a PhD? Is this really only to get Dr. in front of the name? What does my title mean if these people get the same title? Have you ever encountered these type of PhD researchers before?
